Good call. The best burgers are the ones that nail a few key ingredients.Wedgie wrote:Burgers that need to be deconstructed get 0/10 from me, if I wanted that I'd ask for a pattie with salad and a roll.
Less is quite often better with burgers.

Young Miss Boon and I are racking up hours for her learners log book, living nearby we made our way back to the Port at the end of the drive.
She went the chicken schnitty with mushroom, nothing to report other than chips were on the side.
Me, I went the "Stuffed Burger" and I sure was at the end. The burger itself, a beef and pork mix stuffed with mushrooms and cheese is about 4-5cm thick itself. The whole thing assembled would have been 15-20cm high and arrived with a steak knife skewered through it to hold it in place. Simply there is no way to pick the thing up, no way at all. it had to be deconstructed and eaten with utensils.
Pork/beef pattie stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, bacon, onion rings, lettuce, tomato, relish on a brioche bun w/chips $21. I was up for a feed and it beat me, not often that happens.
Schnitty, burger, coke and a pint of Prancing Pony Sunshine Ale $52. The place had a bad reputation a few years ago, it's improved out of sight since the two brothers took over and that burger was absolute gold.
7/10 for the pub and 8.5/10 for that burger.
I'm positive that I am not alone in believing that you could have easily wrapped your mouth around the burger....

My apologies MT- Kids had nuggets and chips which came out very promptly (with a chupa chup on the side), the missus had a chicken parmigiana which with my meal took another 15 minutes to arrive (but after 8 pints I was in no real rush) but she was more than happy with her meal. And shocked when she looked over and saw I'd demolished my meal before she had half finished hers. As always has the feel of a genuine country pub and the service was decent.

It was surprisingly busy for a Monday night.
We were a group of seven. And the meals came out fairly promptly - except for one (the club president - bad move).
I ordered the Mexicana Parmi and thoroughly enjoyed it - they weren't shy with the jalapenos, which is critical for me.
It was a very large portion, as I always find at Mawsons. The topping was well-balanced, with just the right amount of cheese and sauce.
The parmi was supposed to also have sour cream and guacamole - it didn't.
I wasn't disappointed as I can take it or leave those ingredients. However, I noticed another patron talking to a waitress about it.
But he talked to her like a flog, so I had no sympathy for him.
Chips under the parmi. I had to lift up the parmi to move them to the side.
The salad bar was standard fare, although I noted a big bowl of sliced onion. I approve.
The atmosphere was what you expect from a big modern pub. A big, open and noisy experience made for your 'average joe' punters.
It was also quiz night and I tried to take part as well as contribute to the meeting, but the quizmaster had a lisp and I was unable to understand most of his questions.
I base my ratings on what you expect from a venue. I got what I expected - a moderately priced, large-sized meal in a family environment and I got this. 7/10 (a mark was lost for forgetting the president's meal).
