I would have thought that another WA player would be chosen. They seem to get a walk up start for international selection (and have for forty years), despite the myth they have a much easier run to selection than NSW.

Justin Langer managed to talk both Renshaw and Handscombe out of the test team. He seems to be the kingmaker in Australian cricket.

Personally on form I would go for Joe Burns. He has some experience and is currently in rare form. They cannot retain Bancroft, looks way out of his depth in this field at the moment.

RIG are you suggesting Michael Klinger by some chance ;)

He is one WA player that I would like to see have a go, but alas he moved there too late. I did hear Justin Langer refer to him as a champion.

I can hardly think of a NSW player who hasn't earned his test cap whereas I can think of more than a team full of WA players who have been lucky to be selected or in the case of Shaun Marsh reinstated 9 times. Of course eventually he will make some runs.

I’d say Burns stats for Australia would be better than Bancroft and Renshaw.

Tests:
Bancroft 8 INNS (1 N.O.) - 179 runs @ 26 (1x 50)
Renshaw 18 INNS (1 N.O.) - 623 runs @ 37 (1x 100, 3x 50)
Burns 23 INNS (0 N.O.) - 873 runs @ 38 (3x 100, 4x 50)

I thought Burns was stiff to be dropped.

Also Kurt Patterson is a player I wouldn't mind seeing wear the baggy green in the next year or two, form permitting.

The selectors f**ked up last season by picking Maddinson in front of him IMO.

The numbers don't lie and I'd like to see Burns get another crack at test level.

No disagreement there, just proves the hypocrisy of the hierarchy.

Maxwell averaging 22 in the shorter form, why should he get a gig over over guys like Head that have earnt their spot. Lynne is probably the selection that baffles me the most
Awesome striker of the ball but Lynn has just become a domestic T20 slogger now and that's it, happy for him to prove me wrong but I think he will be found out by the English bowlers, that's if he doesn't get injured first.

Aussie selectors have missed a trick... they should have picked swampy's daughter.

Shield form doesnt mean anything these days anyway - Glenn Maxwell has a 274 and a 96 in his last two games and cant even get into the ODI squad.

Seems like just because he is a dickhead they dont wanna pick him

I think its becoming obvious if Steve Smith doesnt like you you have no chance.
IMO Steve Smith is only a small run of outs from the Australian public turning on him ala Michael Clarke, he really rubs me the wrong way sometimes and im sure im not in the minority. Its his petulence when things arent going his way, very much a private school/NSW trait, the public bashing of Maxwell this week is not something he would get away with if he wasnt averaging 70 odd.

Not sure Smith carries that much weight on the selection table but I do think you are right in that the selectors are putting more emphasis on character than ever before.

Listening to Mark Waugh commentating he says on many occasions when he get is asked about their selection he talks about the character and what else they bring to the team beyond just there current form.

I also heard from a redback mate that one of the reasons Ferguson only got the one test was he didn't display the best attitude during very short time in the squad

In the short term Smuth, selectors and co have got it very right

To the opposite to that Handscombe by all accounts is the role model team mate, personality and I think we will see him get multiple opportunities to come back in and out the side throughout his career

I never had a problem with Clarke, I thought he was unfairly judged by the public due to his liking for fast cars and hot woman.
Lara Bingle is HOT!

He was a bit selfish at times but I reckon Steve Smith is far worse when it comes to being selfish and spoilt!
