West Coast Eagles 2017

Talk on the national game

West Coast Eagles 2017

Postby helicopterking » Sat Mar 11, 2017 7:58 am

Disappointing season last year. Out game plan got worked out against the quick sides, we never really got going and struggled to string together good performances. Hopefully an eye opener for all players and coaching staff.
No Nic Nat for the year, Lycett injured for most of the pre season, but an earlier then expected return date is a positive. Plenty of other ruck options with the inclusion of Vardy and Petrie to go with Giles, hopefully they can contribute and take some marks around the ground as we will lose the hit outs most weeks. With the inclusion of Sam Mitchell, hopefully his ability and knowledge of roving to a losing Ruckmen will rub off on some of the other Mids, who relied a bit to much on Nic Nat silver service. Hopefully this makes us a tougher midfield unit which we need to be.

Positives this Season- If Eric MacKenzie gets back to anywhere near form, he can take the best forward, leaving either McGovern or Hurn free to set up some play. Both are elite kicks. It will help with development of Barrass, who looks good, but isn't ready for the big forward yet.
- If Vardy can stay fit, he looks a likely type. The big word "IF".
- Mitchell in will take heaps of pressure of Priddis,Shuey and Gaff. How Simpson uses him will be interesting, won't play mid all season, no doubt will be rested at times.
- Not to many other issues during preseason, Schofield,Butler,Duggan,Giles a few minor injuries. Apprantly Jetta has had a huge Preseason, but we will see, as effort and want is something you have or you don't.
- Slightly easier draw then last year.

Negatives
- Looks like he will continue with Josh Hill. He just isn't very good. Puts in to many pathetic efforts to be an AFL standard footballer. Not sure we can play Lecras,Hill and Jetta all in the same team. When the going gets tough, these blokes disappear.
- No Nic Nat
- Hopefully Simpson has worked on his gameplan, because a simple Shepard to the man on the mark, took the whole web down last season. Bulldogs did it, Hawks did it.
- Hopefully Simpson starts filtering some youth through, when The Likes of hill, Jetta and Lecras start stinking it up.

My Starting Team ( Of currently fit players)

Sheppard MacKenzie Barrass
Wellingham McGovern. Hurn
Gaff. Priddis. Masten
Yeo. Darling. Cripps
Lecras. Kennedy. Sheed

Rucks. Int:
Vardy. Jetta
Mitchell. Giles/Petrie
Shuey. Hutchings
Nelson

Think it's time for Darling to deliver in the bigger games too mate .. Has all the tools.

I like the Coasters this year, just need (like all clubs) a decent run with health. The hole in ruck might be a concern, but hopefully your talent laden midfield can off-set that.

Game plan already looks different. Very much 1:1 HAndball to kick ratio. Mitchell already looking good. Vardy was excellent against the Dees and the dish wasn't 2 bad either. Maybe he can help JD with playing consistent footy.

No Lycett for an extended period with shoulder injury. See Giles had 49 hitouts from 55 jumps at the footy and Redden had 39 possies in the WAFL.

Good early signs for the EAGS!!!

So is Giles the main man now?

He will need a chop out surely which guarantees Petrie time in the middle I'm guessing.

When they have evidence that their is a problem, and even if it was true there would be no time for him in the paper because Cousins seems to enjoy his time in the headlines. .

Not sour on 2006, we played shit and only lost by a point. Never even should have got that close.
But that premiership will always be tainted, whether you like it or not

The coach at the time was a pharmacist - does anyone honestly think he wasn't aware what was going on to certain degree?
