$5000 fine and suspended for rd1. Very soft. Another port player in the car too and got the same sanction (cant remember his name, never heard of him)

Port Adelaide’s player leadership group, following consultation with the AFL and AFLPA, has sanctioned Jarman Impey $5,000 and banned him from playing in Round 1 of the premiership season following his involvement in a motor vehicle incident on Saturday evening.

The incident, where four cars were damaged on a Norwood street, led to his subsequent charging by South Australian Police.

Following consultation with the Motor Accident Commission, Impey will direct the $5,000 sanction to the Brain Injury Network of SA (BINSA) in support of its road safety programs assisting people who have acquired brain injury as a result of road related trauma.

Impey will also be required to participate in BINSA’s Youth Reconnect Transition Program, where he will witness first-hand the impact and life changing circumstances that result from road trauma.

Involvement of Aidyn Johnson

Port Adelaide can now confirm South Australian Police have been advised that player Aidyn Johnson was a passenger in Impey’s vehicle at the time the incident occurred.

As a result of this information, the leadership group, again following consultation with the AFL and the AFLPA, determined to apply the same internal sanction to Johnson.

Johnson will therefore not play football in Round 1, and will donate $5,000 to BINSA and also participate in the Youth Transition Program.

These sanctions are based on the information at hand and Port Adelaide will make no further comment as the matter is subject to an ongoing police investigation.

Considering he still has sanctions to come as a result of breaking the law, how is it soft?

From a leadership group point of view, not financially. min. 4 week suspension internally for mine.

Only just noticed this topic. On the surface it's a light penalty, but with other legal based sanctions to potentially come it may not be. You do get the feeling that the lad is suffering and has been since before the event took place, so that has to be factored in.

Many will argue that chance played it's part in people not getting hurt, so I can understand their stance too. Tough one I guess.

It's done now though, and has been and is being addressed, so time to move on.

What else is there to know?
He broke the law....... end of story.
Other factors don't come into it.

Leaving the scene of a crime is a criminal offence and whilst the courts will deal with him later the club and the AFL needs to send a strong message to all their players that this is a very serious offence that won't be tolerated.

Would be good, but one nuffy after another will be lining up to tell the club how to handle the situation.

Give them a call mate, they might be interested in you input. Or not.

Take your Power supporter hat off and understand this is a serious offence he committed.
He may be under stress or other hardship personally but that shouldn't effect his club imposed penalty.

Are you happy with the 1 game ban?

If someone at Carlton did the same I'd hope they would come down hard on them.

I'll let the people best served with looking after his welfare look after it, seems that's what they're doing after gathering all the facts and knowing the full situation. Unlike the rest of us.

The police will handle the criminal side of the case.

The clubs handed down it's punishment, keep discussing it if you wish.

What "reduction in penalty"? There's only been one penalty handed down by the club.

So once a punishment is handed down rightly or wrongly you have to move on straight away do you.
