Our back half were great today, kept us in the game during the 3rd quarter. Jake Long certainly didn't look out of place. And Rocket seemed happy to let Zaharakis and Merrett do their own thing for most of it, cheers for that! =D>

My son is a GC supporter and after taking him up there round 1 to watch us get pumped by 10 goals I made sure he sat through the whole game yesterday. Our makeshift defence were awesome yesterday and Zac was just fantastic. A 20yo in his debut game as a skipper and still found it 38 times, has a real good head on his shoulders. Plenty to like and actually looking forward to seeing how we go next year

Rumours going around that when Essendon put the contract on the table, the table broke.

Great contract for Hurley. I'd not be surprised if the range and scope of it were beyond what other clubs were willing to go with, but I reckon it's a deal Essendon won't live to regret.

Does mean we don't get to see what he'd have been worth in a trade market though. ;-)

$4m over 5 years isn't too bad.
The length of it worries me a bit as its really a 6 year deal as he has next years still to run. Management and the club could be playing funny buggers but there are a few that reckon 3 clubs offered equal if not more with Collingwood's offer closer to $1m a year

No doubt his compensation will be a tidy sum, gotta be a reason everyone is staying, a nice little compo payout tops up the salary just nicely

Good stuff, I like the way he goes about it, and reckon he will be a good pick up, with better players around him.

Based on how Essendon approach the trade table they'll expect a first rounder and probably a first choice player for him.

One of the ones I wasn't as bothered about losing. Good player but feel we have plenty vying for his spot and the club would of been forced to pay way overs for him. He is real good mates with Melksham and Goodwin and they have a 4 year deal on the table apparantly. Straight swap for their second rounder will be fine. Would allow us to pick up Dea for a 4th rounder at half his price and leave us with miles of cap space

Essendon rejecting Melbournes pick 27, you were saying bout Essendon being easy to deal with Jim???

Just media crap Daisy. For one Hibberd hasn't even nominated a club yet and Essendon and Melbourne won't even discuss a deal until he does so a bit hard to reject something that hasn't happened.
If it is Melbourne there is also a chance of a player swap rather than a pick. Salem and his management met with us again today, that's his second meeting with the club and is pretty keen to come over. Would think he is probably worth more than Hibberd though so might cost us a lower round pick aswell

Christ that massive tidal wave of players leaving has really stuffed them for next season. That 1 player out of 12 is really going to hurt them lol
