Good luck mate, debuting any new clubs at all?

No... :( Went and looked at several options, can't decide. Need to pick one and run with it.

Yep I get that.

My first "real set" of clubs was an off the rack set of Spalding Power Flites. Regular flex irons, standard 3 iron - SW. Came with Driver, 3w & 5w. Used them for about 6 or 7 years. Went from 31 handicap down to about 16. Then I upgraded to the Pings....custom fit etc.

Morale of the story, it doesn't really matter too much where you start. The quality of equipment now is way better than it was 25 years ago. Particularly the hybrid gear.

Mid range Srixon, Nike etc would be a good starting point. Then in a few years time once you've joined a club, and are getting into the game lash out on the high end stuff, if you are so inclined.

Well, what an interesting day. When hosting clients you never really know what you're going to get, as it is, I got a 1st timer. Yes, one of the chaps thought it best he bring a leading hand who had not played before. Making matters more interesting the pro shop rang to tell me no carts on the course so we'd have to walk it, that's fine I thought, nice day for it.

Well, that was until one of the guests who, when previously self employed, played weekly off 14 wanted to play off the stick when it was and is always my intent to play best ball and keep the game moving. Nope, he wanted to play our own games.

The new bloke has 14 on the first. Me a two putt bogey 5. Not a bad start. Went into the water next hole left, hit a good second one from the tee and salvaged a double bogey 6, par the next par 3 in regulation and I'm going ok. Meanwhile the other bloke is up to 30 something in 3 holes.

Onto the 4th adjacent the practice range and one of the more open driving holes and I go ok, then shank left, then spray right, just near the newbie. He's borrowed his bosses clubs for the day, some Wilsons. Probably 3-4 years old, full set with a nice new driver and hybrid. So he's in the trees on the 4th, he takes in the 5 iron to dig himself out and yep, goes through with it and snaps the 5 iron clean in half. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I did both. His two work mates pissed themselves for the next 3 holes.

So, with all this we only played 9 holes in a little over 3 hours. **** me, it was slow going.

The bloke previously off 14 went 46, I went 51 with a 9 on the 4th after the hilarity of the broken club, the other bloke went 65 and the newbie was 96 from 9 holes and we didn't count the air swings or the putts from about 4 feet that we gave him just to keep moving.

At least the One fifty lashes was muddy from the bottom of the keg.

What a ******* tool wanting to play off the stick in those conditions. Stableford at worst if he wanted to play his own ball and those without handicaps pick up after 10 shots.

Yep, it wasn't my idea of a nice way to spend and afternoon. We were literally all over every fairway and barely walked 100m without someone playing a shot. No wonder it took us 3 hours to play 9!

We let 4 groups go through, one group of 4 old blokes all 60+ ate us up and spat us out as they powered up behind us and through us.

That doesn't sound like much fun Booney, better than going to work I guess but only just.

I took some customers out for a game last October. It was pretty obvious by the gear a few lads had, they didn't play much. So to make it fun for everyone we played an ambrose/match play game. It was a bit weird at first but it kind of worked. We had a group of 5, lucky it was a quiet day on the course & they let us play as a 5. So we made a team of 3 & a team of 2, for the front 9, then swapped it over for the back 9. As the low handicapper I played for both teams. That way the real scrubbers still got a hit, but could pick up and play from the better ball position of their team.

Ended up the team who were 4 holes down after 9 holes.... won on the 18th hole. Good day all round.

That way the one customer who could play a bit still had a good day, and the other lads didn't feel quite so silly.

It was a pretty rough afternoon, one of the other chaps had a terrible week.

His Mrs had one of her best friends die in her arms at the gym on Tuesday night, the bloke I played with and his Mrs were very tight with the couple....poor bastards.

Any chance MT79 could be taken into custody on the course?
