There's an epidemic to come.

Illicit drug use has declined over the last decade

Drug addicts raising kids isn't something new.

Meth use has gone up significantly, so while "illicit drugs" as a whole has gone down or not changed, meth / amphetamine use has increased.

So while people raised by smoking hippies are one thing, the kids raised by ice users are another. I think/hope we can agree on that.

With my wife at the coal face, it's very evident the kids who are cared for properly and those who are not.

Methamphetamine use hasn't increased, but there has been a shift in which form of methamphetamine is being used.

I agree even if motivated to a degree by money you have to be mentally ill to some degree to murder someone.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that .. I think some people would murder because they don't have a standard moral compass, and perhaps prioritise other things above safety of fellow man.

It's a fair question Wedgie asks though - Even if it's not possible or acceptable to remove people from the public, at least it's exploring any potential options to try and reduce instances of whats occurred in Lincoln.

Tough situation thats only going to get worse into the future with substance abuse induced psychotic illness.

But couldn't this be a sign of mental illness? Having a warped view of the world around you is considered a sign and there isn't much more warped a view than thinking someone's life should end for your benefit.

Unfortunately, for those who are genuinely in need of help, I think there are a lot of people who play the depression/mental illness card when things don't go their way as an excuse for poor behaviour. Similar to how some shit parents self-diagnose their kids with ADHD as an excuse when they are really just spoilt little c*nts.

That's true - the tablets of Dexamphetamine and Methamphetamine you could buy over the counter from the local Pharmacy in the 1960s as dieting aids did not get into the system as fast as "Ice".

Although I had a mate who used them to help him drive cars back to Adelaide from Melbourne - two trips a weekend fly over and drive back - for a local second hand dealer used them and started hallucinating coming down the Mt Barker Rd the second day.

It should be legal to do that and sue them for any damage to your car in the process.

I see this a lot. However, I don't think the issue is that the kids are spoilt little pricks, it's that the parents are lazy bloody twats and want a way to explain their child's problem that doesn't necessarily fall on their shoulders.

Exactly i.e. "Billy's just a little shit because he's got ADHD not because I kick him outside all day during school holidays".

Or, he's got ADHD, not because I don't create boundaries for my kids, or ever say 'no' to them, or make sure they get to bed early.

I've argued for years in medical circles that, apart from alcohol, the most abused drug in Oz is probably Codeine, which converts to Morphine in the body.
It was always easily available over the counter in 8mg form, and in 30mg form, on prescription - then the government made higher strengths available over the counter...

(Note: Heroin is diamorphine,)

A stupid question:

Is there any salient difference between OTC and prescription versions of a medicine besides the amount of active ingredient?

If I took four OTC codeine pills and ate them, would I essentially have just given myself a prescription dose of codeine?

Makes one wonder why they bother trying to restrict the higher dosages.

They're usually in combination with paracetamol or ibuprofen. The two grams of paracetamol in that dose would be more dangerous than the codeine.

Police have confirmed that Port Lincoln man Damien Little and his two young sons all suffered gunshot wounds before he drove off the town's wharf.
