bennymacca wrote:So if 80 non racists and 20 racists all boo at the same time, how can you tell them apart?

Do you think it is then the job of the 20 racists to shut up, the 80 non racists to realist the sensitivity of the situation and maybe just tone it down a bit, or on the man being booed to "harden up a bit"

What's easier to accomplish?
I posted earlier that if Goodes had performed his spear dance before the match and directed it at the Carlton players, in the same vein as the Haka is done, it would have been taken completely differently.
I thought the dance itself looked good, and would have loved to have seen it adopted as part of Aboriginal round as a pre-match "challenge".
None of that seems to have crossed Goodes' mind when he spontaneously charged across the ground at the Carlton Cheer squad and directed the dance at them.
What was he thinking?
Now it has been taken up by Jetta, not as a celebration of Aboriginal culture, but as part of an ongoing verbal war centered around Goodes.
FWIW I wasn't offended by the dance, or his treatment of that girl or his reference to "invasion day", but I think he is hardly helping the cause he's fighting for, he is very divisive.
Unfortunately if he backs down now it will be seen as a win for the racists, as one side is hell bent on painting the other side as being entirely bigoted.
Create a clearer picture of the one side being unhappy with certain ACTIONS then we will open a door for Goodes to retreat through.
Do you get where I am coming from?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

SUMMARY
The Swans have had a tough fortnight with big losses to Hawthorn and West Coast so they'll need a much improved effort to get their season back on track, or they might drop out of the top four. John Longmire's side is struggling to score, while also battling to stop the goals at the other end. The Crows have multiple avenues to goal in skipper Taylor Walker, big man Josh Jenkins, plus the dangerous Eddie Betts and Charlie Cameron, so the Swans defence will have its hands full at the SCG.

WHERE AND WHEN: SCG, Saturday 4.35pm AEST

TV AND RADIO: Click here for TV and broadcast guide

PAST FIVE TIMES
R3, 2014, Sydney Swans 21.8 (134) d Adelaide 9.17 (71) at Adelaide Oval
R11, 2013, Sydney Swans 19.13 (127) d Adelaide 6.14 (50) at AAMI Stadium
2QF, 2012, Sydney Swans 11.5 (71) d Adelaide 5.12 (42) at AAMI Stadium
R6, 2012, Adelaide 15.9 (99) d Sydney Swans 14.10 (94) at the SCG
R15, 2011, Adelaide 8.9 (57) d Sydney Swans 6.14 (50) at AAMI Stadium

THE SIX POINTS

1. Swans Luke Parker and Lance Franklin kicked four goals each the last time these teams met, when their side won by 63 points in Adelaide last year.

2. The Swans are ranked second for average disposals a game this season with 386.8, but the Crows are the No.1 ranked contested possession side with 146.7 a game.

3. This will be the 36th contest between the sides and Adelaide holds a clear advantage, winning 22 games to 13; however the Swans have won the past three and four of the past six.

4. The Crows are the best clearance team in 2015, they're ranked first averaging 43.1 per game, compared to the Swans who are ranked ninth averaging 39.7.

5. One of the few teams who enjoy a positive win-loss record against the Swans at the SCG, the Crows have won 11 of 16 contests at the venue, including the past four; the Swans haven’t defeated the Crows at the ground since 2004.

6. The Crows will have a big advantage in the ruck if the AFL's Official Player Ratings are any indication. Sam Jacobs is ranked 13th in the League and is the second highest ranked ruckman behind North Melbourne's Todd Goldstein, while the Swans' No.1 big man Mike Pyke is well down the list at number 243.

IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR… Nick Smith
The 2014 All Australian will likely spend the important round 18 clash minding Crows goalsneak Eddie Betts, so it's sure to be a busy afternoon. Smith has averaged 16 possessions a game this season, and continues to be given the tough jobs inside the defensive 50. Betts kicked a career-high 51 goals in his first year with the Crows in 2014 and is just 10 off that mark at the moment. If Smith can keep him quiet, it will go a long way towards a Swans victory.

PREDICTION: Sydney Swans by 17 points.

My apologies if this is true. So much has been written on here, and today's paper was definitely spouting that line. It basically denies one side a voice, and turns a debate into a mess.

It's like West Indians eating KFC at the cricket again.
African Americans found the campaign to be racist, until they realised the context, but it was the first I or just about anyone I know ever heard of that negative connotation of black people and chicken. That does not make me racist, and the majority of black people in America, with the correct education, would have realised the same.
Just to provide a clear example.

Different.
Aboriginal people in Australia do find being called an "ape" offensive.
The West Indian cricket side did not find the fried chicken concept as offensive.

Still on cricket, have you noted Australian cricket promotions no longer use the word 'Paki'.
The name had no connotation here, but it certainly does in the UK, hence it was dropped.
Should we be angry we can't call the Pakistanis Pakis any more? Or should we just accept it and get on with life?

I'm sure KFC Australia will think twice before showing West Indians eating their product again also.
The answer is we get on with life. But if the Pakistanis had decided to make a fight over it and made some poorly judged remarks about us then we probably would have stalled.

Adam has obviously indicated that the booing is negatively affecting him personally. Even if you think he should 'toughen up' and 'deal with it' etc, its now not an issue of whether it is right or wrong, racial or other, its an issue of a persons mental and or emotional health.

Im sorry he feels this way. But its been happening to all players for 100 years hasnt it?.
Do the umpires feel this way to?

Perhaps lawn bowls or golf might be a better option if its that big an issue
