The 2nd half of my 2014 player reviews:

42. Tom Jonas
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 22
2014 Disposals: 333 (15 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 111 (5 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 1

Career: 56 Games, 1 Goal

TJ became Ken’s “Mr fix it” in 2014, often assigned to fulfil defensive roles on dangerous opposition forwards, tall or small. Kept Luke Breust goalless in the Preliminary Final, which shows just how far Tommy has come in his 56 games. Part of the 2014 leadership group- is highly respected amongst the players and coaching staff.

39. Justin Westhoff
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 25
2014 Disposals: 466 (18 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 182 (7 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 29 (1 goal p.g)

Career: 159 Games, 204 Goals

Another outstanding season from Westy. 4th in the PAFC Best & Fairest count, and 2nd to Nick Riewoldt for marks in the competition- is by far and away Port’s most important transitional player. He is a forward/defender who can have spurts through the ruck, with the tank of a wingman, the only thing Westy lacks is finishing in front of the sticks. Ryder will make Westy even more dangerous in 2015, its fair to say Hinkley has released the potential we all know he had.

36. Jack Hombsch
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 24
2014 Disposals: 325 (13 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 190 (8 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 0

Career: 39 Games, 0 Goals

Seriously- why the hell did GWS give this bloke up? In a breakout year- Hombschy played 24 games, and was primarily used as a third up defender, with his intercept marking and spoiling skills a huge asset to the side. Can only imagine how good he will become once Ryder enters the fray, allowing he and Westhoff to act as intercept defenders.

32. Jake Neade
SANFL Stats:
2014 Games: 14
2014 Disposals: 213 (15 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 46 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 23 (1 goal per game)

AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 8
2014 Disposals: 89 (11 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 18 (2 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 10 (1 goal p.g)

Career: 24 Games, 21 Goals

If Jake Neade was the surprise packet of the 2013 season, up until round 20 of the 2014 season it looked to head south for the NT speedster. Then things started to happen. Was brought into the side in round 20 to apply much needed F50 pressure and didn’t disappoint. Averaging nearly 3 tackles, 1 1% and a goal a game over the last 7 rounds of the year, Jake became a clear crowd favourite bringing spark to our forwardline. Must push for a Round 1 starting 22 position.

29. Jasper Pittard
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 25
2014 Disposals: 399 (16 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 110 (4 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 3

Career: 56 Games, 8 Goals

It’s no secret that Jasper is the most maligned Port player. When he is on, he looks a million bucks, but when it goes pear shaped….oh dear…
Became our designated kick in player, along with Broadbent, and was used for some brilliant coast to coast plays.
Beginning to show reasons why we drafted him, however improvement in his decision making will be a big focus heading into 2015.

28. Jay Schulz
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 25
2014 Disposals: 313 (12 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 160 (6 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 66 (2 goals p.g)

Career: 167 Games, 279 Goals

Another fantastic season from Jay, finishing 4th in the league for goals, and making the AA squad of 40. Although he missed out on the final side, he has now finished as leading goal kicker of the PAFC for the 4th season out of his 5 at the club. Jay managed bags of 6 or more on 4 occasions, with a best of 8 against the Western Bulldogs. Adding Ryder to the forward mix doesn’t necessarily mean more goals for Jay, but a multi-dimensional forward line, which I just cannot wait to see in action.

27. Alipate Carlisle
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 20
2014 Disposals: 244 (12 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 60 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 0

Career: 153 Games, 5 Goals
Alipate continued to lift his game under Hinkley, a remarkable rise since he appeared almost out the door at the end of season 2012. As per Trengove, missing Bob through Rounds 16-18 really hurt the make up of our back 6. A fit Carlisle and Trengove free up the likes of Hombsch, Jonas, O’Shea, Westhoff to play crucial intercept roles. A massive piece of the 2015 premiership puzzle.

24. Jarman Impey
SANFL Stats:
2014 Games: 5
2014 Disposals: 45 (9 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 15 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 2

AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 18
2014 Disposals: 200 (11 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 50 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 3

Career: 18 Games, 3 Goals

Jarman was selected with pick 21 in the 2013 draft (our first pick), and didn’t disappoint, playing in 18 games and earning a NAB rising star nomination against Fremantle, in round 8.
Recruited to play a lockdown role on the competitions best small forwards, Jarman learned some valuable lessons this season to take into 2015, with performances against Hayden Ballantyne, hopefully a sign of things to come.

23. Matthew Lobbe
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 24
2014 Disposals: 252 (10 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 49 (2 marks p.g)
2014 Hitouts: 761 (31 hitouts p.g)
2014 Goals: 6

Career: 67 Games, 16 Goals

A well deserved winner of the 2014 PAFC coaches award, what an outstanding season from our lionhearted ruckman. With season ending injuries to Redden & Renouf, Lobbe was asked to ruck virtually on his own for the last two thirds of the season, and was outstanding. Needs to hit the scoreboard more often, and look at impacting marking contests, but a Lobbe/Ryder ruck tandem is tantalising for Port fans heading into 2015.

21. Jared Polec
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 24
2014 Disposals: 470 (19 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks:74 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 17

Career: 40 Games, 26 Goals

I was nervous on 2 occasions with Jared over the 2013 off season. First was when we gave up pick 14 for a top 5 talent, who was unproven at AFL level. 2nd time was his first pre-season time trial, when it looked as though it may backfire. From that day forward it was all upside. He announced his arrival against Essendon in the NAB cup, and a 30 possession, 3 goal game against GWS. Another player where inconsistency became an issue as the year wore on, but with first rate skills, and great ability to read the play- the sky is the limit for Polec.

20. Chad Wingard
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 24
2014 Disposals: 390 (16 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 94 (4 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 43 (2 goals p.g)

Career: 67 Games, 95 Goals

2014 was always going to prove tough for Chad. The 2013 Best & Fairest and AA was always going to face increased attention, which along with a slight change in role, saw his disposal average drop from 21 to 16 per game and was in and out of games much more this season.
Negatives aside, Chad still finished the season with 43 goals, and proved he only needs a quarter to wreak havoc on the opposition. Outstanding performances against Adelaide, Fremantle (twice) and Hawthorn shows he can perform in the big games. Was also winner of this seasons mark of the year.

19. Matthew White
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 22
2014 Disposals: 306 (14 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 93 (4 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 25 (1 goal p.g)

Career: 127 Games, 79 Goals

Matty crossed from Richmond as a free agency selection, and made an immediate impact for the PAFC, quickly becoming a crowd favourite with his electric pace and long running goals. Was brought to the club specifically to add outside run and carry with a desire to play more game time, White certainly pleased Hinkley, who never handed him the green vest beyond the first showdown. Finished with recognition as winner of goal of the year and without the injuries that nagged him late in the season, will hopefully become a genuine game breaker in 2015.

18. Kane Cornes
AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 25
2014 Disposals: 607 (24 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 132 (5 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 1

Career: 293 Games, 92 Goals

Set to become Port Adelaide’s first 300 game player in round 7 of next season, Kane had another fantastic season as our primary run with player. Kane finished third in Port Adelaide’s Best & Fairest, the 10th time in 11 years he has been given such an honour. Fourth in disposals for PAFC, a magnificent stat considering Kane was responsible for some crucial shut down roles. None better than his 33 possession effort against Geelong on ANZAC weekend, whilst restricting Selwood to 17, in our first win against the Cats in 7 years.

2014 Marks: 71 (3 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 14

Career: 49 Games, 22 Goals

The 2 time Gavin Wanganeen medallist had another outstanding season, and statistically has had a better start in his first 50 games than Chris Judd- Staggering. Started the season in a blaze of glory with a 28 possession, 2 goal, 3 vote performance against Carlton, and never looked back. With Michael Voss on board as midfield manager- it is scary to think how good he is going to become. Still can’t believe he missed selection in the U23 AA team- LOL.

13. Cameron O’Shea
SANFL Stats:
2014 Games: 10
2014 Disposals: 201 (20 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 55 (5 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 2

AFL Stats:
2014 Games: 12
2014 Disposals: 227 (19 disposals p.g)
2014 Marks: 60 (5 marks p.g)
2014 Goals: 0

Career: 58 Games, 7 Goals

After playing every game in 2013, and appearing entrenched in our best 22, 2014 presented limited opportunity for Cam, particularly with the inclusion of Impey, and the emergence of Hombsch. It wasn’t until injuries to Jackson Trengove and Bobby Carlisle in round 15 opened the door for Cam, and he didn’t look back. Offers the side significant rebound and great intercept marking, he will ensure our back 6 line up for 2015 will be hotly contested over the off-season!
