yeah but what you guys are failing to see is, what about all the clubs that have done a lot of hard work to get good numbers at their club, create a culture people stay at?? There are some clubs that would lose heaps of kids if we went to 4 sides. Why change for the weak?? Why not work HARD and work to get better? Instead we are prepared to throw our arms in the air and say F@#k it its too hard lets just take the easy option.

Maybe these kids might find their way to nearby clubs struggling for numbers. They will be lost to the clubs eventually when there is no room in the Seniors for most of them. I'd say every club works hard to attract more juniors. There is enough kids playing in this league for most clubs to fill all grades except 18's which is obviously a bit thin on numbers. But most kids are at the bigger clubs with 2 or 3 sides per age group. And letting a club have 3 under 8's sides only increases the problem in the future.

Equally bizarre was the vote of a member of the board that had no mandate to do so as this member was not supported by the clubs twice during the AGM and was GIVEN a seat after a member left the SFL Board.

So we have someone clearly not supported by the clubs making a decision that over ruled the majority of the clubs!!!!!!

Maybe these kids might find their way to nearby clubs struggling for numbers. They will be lost to the clubs eventually when there is no room in the Seniors for most of them. I'd say every club works hard to attract more juniors. There is enough kids playing in this league for most clubs to fill all grades except 18's which is obviously a bit thin on numbers. But most kids are at the bigger clubs with 2 or 3 sides per age group. And letting a club have 3 under 8's sides only increases the problem in the future.

In an ideal world this would happen, but there are already clubs with surplus junior players and ultimately they decide if they can't play with their mates, then they'd rather not play at all. We even have issues where a player can't play with his mates in the same team, but at the same club, they disappear from footy all togeteher. They will not drift over to Lonsdale or Hackham just to play footy as at the younger ages it's all about their mates and they don't have the confidence to walk into foreign territory and start all over again.

We pick up players from nearby clubs because their school mates change when they go to high school and they want to play with them and we also lose players on the same basis, but rarely do we ever lose players because they go to another club to get a game. Happens in seniors, but not in juniors.

well there are 3 clubs listed in all of your categories so that says to.me they are really struggling. In my opinion if you cannot fill under 14s and 16s on a regular basis then you are gonna really struggle in the future

I was surprised by their total lack of intensity. I expected we would win, but not by 70+ points. Will be interesting to see how they back up this week and if they are a genuine finals contender. I hope they are, would love to see a Flaggies/Valley final.

So what happens when one of those other 12 clubs struggles to fill a junior team, do you then ditch them as well?

The clubs listed above are along way behind the likes of Happy Valley, Brighton and Reynella in terms of juniors but they do tick some of the boxes and I'm sure those working behind the scenes at those clubs would love to fill a team in every grade. This is not a quick fix (as discussed few kids switch clubs under current SFL rules) the strength of clubs in junior grades now is based on the work put in 6-8 years ago.

Aldinga - no under 14's, but strong 16's, combined 18's
MVP - sunday 14's (undefeated), sunday 16's and 18's
Lonsdale - sunday 14's, sunday 16's, no 18's
Marion - sunday 14's, no 16's, under 18's
Edwardstown - under 14's in MSJFL, no 16's, under 18's.

Aldinga and Marion also have multiple mini's teams in under 8's and 10's.

Final score was Flaggies 11-20-86 to MV 4-2-26. Flaggies kicked 1-12 in the last quarter. I spoke to the Flaggies team manager this morning and he has no idea why the result and details are not on the SFL site as they have ben inputted through Sporting Pulse and are in the system.
