Rik Mayall (The Young Ones, The New Statesman, Bottom, Drop Dead Fred, Guest House Paradiso) has died. The cause of death is unknown at this stage.
Politicians kissing babies for good luck,
TV preachers sell salvation for a buck.
You don't need no golden cross to tell you wrong from right,
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light.

Not exactly a celebrity as such, but still of interest.

Eric Hill, author of the Spot series of books, has died, aged 86.

Eric Hill, the children's author who topped bestseller charts with his brightly-coloured picture books about the mischievous yellow puppy Spot, has died at the age of 86 at his home in California after a short illness.

Hill's publisher, Puffin, has confirmed the news, describing him as "a master of simple design. He created one of the world's most loveable children's book characters – Spot, the charming, naughty, playful puppy, loved and appreciated across the world".

I have fond memories of listening to American Top 40 in the mid 80s when it was on one of the local AM stations before they took it off air here.

He had a great style about his DJ work.

It was the era when "When Doves Cry" was number one.

Yep, on 5KA - and the days where I used to get the tape recorder at the ready - with the 2 fingers on the record and play button to get the good songs ;)

Yes I had a few radio mix tapes with Kasey Casem talking over the intro

I remember one "And now Steve Perry singing about his girlfriend ....." (Casem talking over the intro to "Oh Sherry")

That was back in the day when DJs talked over song intros which annoyed me (messing up the intengrity of my mix tapes :) ). I notice nowadays it doesn't often happen

Used to sh!t me no end as a kid. Had to sit there near the end of the song with finger perched on the stop button to try and beat them talking at the end. Then having to rewind and record blank to try and remove the inevitable blurb you managed to record...

Star of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) actress Marilyn Burns has died aged 65.

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/33067 ... d-away-65/

Very sad news with the renewed interest in the movie as the 4K restoration of the film is currently playing at film festivals around the world to celebrate the 40th anniversary of arguably the greatest horror movie of all-time.

She and most of the film's cast were due to appear for a 40th anniversary reunion at Phil Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, Texas in October.
