So are you telling me they ultimately compromised a competition they themselves chose to enter into, with the permission of all of the other clubs, for the sake of a chance at an ultimately bigger prize?

Yep fair point imo.
I would have thought being able to be called champions or Australia would be a pretty significant carrot, but it doesn't seem to be.
I really like the concept but they have to try and do better than the current system, because it doesn't work. At least in the eyes of the sanfl clubs

Clearly the advent of Adelaide in the SANFL and the loss of the bye has impacted upon how the participating clubs see the importance of the "Cup".
