A great win by the Port Districts boys over flinders last sunday.

Really impressed to see the continual improvement of a few young boys from Port, espically J J O'neil who is quickly challenging Toastie for best player at Port.

On the other hand it was quite amusing to see Flinders return to there old ways of arguing with the referee and between themselves.

So much for there new found discipline and team structure this year.

I would sincerely like to thank all the teams involved last night Na Fianna, Port Districts, St.Brendans, Western Ireland and Onkas for the minutes silence given for the passing of my Dad last night. Also thanks to everyone who attended the funeral and sent or offered their condolences. It was humbling to see the support I was given. I really appreciated everything everyone did in what was a whirlwind 6 weeks.

It's great to be back out at St. Marys being part of the game I love. Thanks to Port for a great contest last night as well. 8)

In case anyone missed it the game between Na Fianna and Flinders on Friday night was postponed due to power lines coming down and the resulting power failure. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday Feb 12th or 19th. Tickets go on sale Wednesday :)

Well it was going to be tough to play the game in the dark so common sense suggests that we had to reschedule through necessity not convenience.

The rule was brought in to stop teams postponing games when they had players missing as teams were taking advantage of the rule when stronger players were missing. Plenty was written about the final round debacle last season.

I'm pretty sure the association can step in and reschedule a game when it is required too. Such as having no lighting for a night game.
Good to see some common sense from all on this issue!

After a week of 40+ degree weather, St Marys Park could have easily been lit up by the sunburnt skin of MBK…??

Very tight at the top of the league, very open comp this year with only the tree games to go. Anyone with any tips for the Hannigan or the Brownlow etc?

Also did I see an email about some Gaelic7s lightning carnival? They did this a few years ago and it as awesome – got to finally play alongside my hero MATT DOECKE.

Ahhh CT, true if I hadn't been hiding in the confines of my house!

I believe the lightening carnival is a girls only affair.

Matt Doecke, what a guy, but I wouldn't be forgetting the multiple state games you have played with the great man and me ;)

I was keen on this too until i realised it was females only.

Also, is the 'D2 finals' looking like going ahead? Anyone know what the structure will be?

Another day of games cancelled :( Weather has not been good to any of us this year. My team will have played one game in 8 weeks when we next take the field. Not ideal to play in, Shit to coach and obviously not good for our game. Then if weather allows it I will be required to try and get a team together for 3 games in 6 days. The third one being a knockout final.

I'm thinking we may need to start our season 2 weeks earlier as soon as Nationals finish. We need to maybe have a catch up round at the end of December and Feb. This would make sure all mens teams get 12 games. At this stage I look at Flinders and see they may get a 10 game or less season. That's ludicrous. Just an idea but I think as long as we play a brand of football during Summer in Adelaide we may need more than just a hot weather policy but also a contingency plan.

So it looks like the league title will go down to the last weekend of games and is a race in 3. With the Goats going down Friday night to Onkas it puts St. Brendans into favouritism. Also would appear the double chance might be decided in the final Men's game of the year.

Hopefully some better weather will see a good end to what's been a pretty dis jointed season for somE clubs. It would be great if we could get one of the 7s teams to upgrade and become an 8th team and eliminate the bye.

Did Flinders end up getting points for the abandoned match v Na Fianna to enable them to finish 5th?

Ah yea thought that may happen. But also thought it might have been rescheduled.

What happened to Na Fianna on the weekend? That'd be their worst result in a long time surely?

We would have prefered to play Na Fianna, and were ready too untill the lights went out, but there was no option but to split the points.......no sinister motive...

I agree Wristy this season for us has been strange, last Sunday was our 2nd game post xmas......

I hear that a few people arent keen on moving the season forward, which I can understand why, rest etc,....However the heat isnt going to change and late Jan and early Feb are the hottest parts of the year, November and early December are not, could we look at no 7 a side comp before xmas and play some Wednesday Night fixtures?

If we want new teams this might help as Elizabeth Grove came runners up in 7 a side and from what I saw would be around the mark in State league, but they would struggle to play post xmas as they have an annual pre season comp starting first week of feb. The state leagues in soccer have also changed in the last year with the season starting a month earlier, I believe again costing the comp some decent players...

Just some of my thoughts, happy to hear other opinions

It was a dead rubber so it didn't matter. We knew we would be in a knockout final this Friday and should have 5 or 6 very handy ins. I'd expect us to be much more competitive this week, if not it's season over. It's all about Hannigan Cup finals and the previous 4 months count for SFA.

2 very good Gaelic contests. Finals football bought out the best in all teams.
Goats by a point in a tight encounter
Finns by two points in extra time 3.20-29 def St. b 4.15-27 in one of the better games I have seen in a long time. Hats off to The Taints for an amazing contest and for the humility they showed in defeat.
