Teams being 5/175 at stumps is what we want ?

WHUFC as per usual sees things the way they are

5/175 aint what I want Mal unless its the opposition or we are chasing 174.
Id much rather be 1/240 at end of the day. Too many tests dont get to day 5 anymore. Nothing wrong with Clarke playing that shot but the shot was poorly executed.
The Saffers have not earnt 1 wicket today, we are gift wrapping them our wickets

Tad harsh, the Morkel, Rogers ball was reasonable. Had Rogers tried to pull it and get caught he would have been canned by everyone.

Good grief, there are already calls of Marsh justifying his selection. All he's done is make a 50. To justify his selection he needs to not just play one innings, he needs to consistently score runs at this level and first class level and also be fit. He's clearly not fit and picking a bloke who obviously was not right is an absolute joke. Doing a good job here at the moment but will his lack of fitness cost the team in this match and can he back up this innings with more of the same going forward?

Clarke averages 50 + playing Test cricket in this manner

When he is fit
When he does bat like he is this innings
He looks like a very very good Test batsman
But as you say, he has to find consistency
I really hope he does

Yep and Smith gave him a bake about 6-7 overs ago when there should have been two to fineleg and Marsh walked for a single never looking for two.

Not a weakness in my opinion
Arguably the best batsman in the world
Was dismissed by arguably the best bowler in the world
That's no disgrace
When was the last time[b4 this innings] Clarke played a pull shot and got out
Gets him lotsa runs
Was not a poor shot selection , it was simply a poor execution of the shot

A good session for Australia but the next hour will be the most important.
Get through it unscathed and it will give Australia a great deal of confidence for the series.
Love the way Smithy goes about it. Doesn't seem to take too many risks and keeps the runs ticking over.
Has excellent temperament for a relatively inexperienced player.

Looked to short to pull, hence he didn't get close to being able to keep it on the ground. That's just my opinion though.

OK
Mr Sleepy
Doggy
Jimbo
The Clarke critics in this innings

The South Africans will give Clarke more chin deliveries b4 this series has finished
They have won round 1
How should Clarke play from here on ?
Should he play the same shot ?
Should he pull and hook at everything ?
Should he fend them off defensively?
Should he just duck and Weave ?
Should he sway back to the legside and slash through the offside [like Bradman v Larwood] ?
Should he use a tactic I have not posted ?

WHUFC you can post as well

First ball East Coast Smith faces
Magnificent drive through the covers for 4
Had he got out caught in the slips , how many posters have a go at him ?

My opinion
That's the way he bats
That's the way he should play
