This doesnt bother me... I would rather the merge happen closer to the closed lane part than 1km back and everyone in one lane.

I deal with twats in the Holbrooks Rd /Grange Rd /East Tce intersection daily. People that can't get into the right lane to turn cop the full force of my wrath.....

I get my jimmies rustled by drivers who pull into slip lanes to turn right into side streets, but leave half their car hanging out of the lane.

attempting to park the car this morning and ripping the front bumper to shreds because of an umarked concrete garden bed that was raised at the corner due to earth movement.

If the company thinks I'm paying the excess they can get stuffed, they were negligent in not marking it or fixing it.
