I'm not a big Warner fan at all but in fairness to him his probably the only batsmen in the country that we have that opposition captains would worry that he could win a game of his own bat, Clarke excluded.

Now it looks like Watson won't be bowling does he go out the side with Cowan back to opening and either Warner, Khawaja or Wade to number 3.

Haddin would want to bat well his keeping wasn't much better than Wades is to the fast bowlers

If I'd stayed in the Riverland, I could've played Renmark cricket and been bowled by Peter Siddle as well.

I confess I wasn't a fan of Siddle's selection, personally would've like to have seen Jackson Bird in there, but Siddle did his job and did it well - amazing what he is capable of when he can get the ball to move a bit.

I like the balance of the line up at the moment, I don't like Warner much (except when he is firing) but would've probably preferred him to Smith, however Smith has shown in patches that he possibly could be a reliable lower order bat.

Rogers
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Warner
Smith
Haddin/Wade
Siddle
Starc
Pattinson
Bird

Dont play a spinner for the sake of playing a spinner - Clarke, Warner, Smith, Hughes can roll over some gentle tweakers if they want to push through some overs and Watson is an option as another med.

You're stealing my line.

I had a tenner on Siddle at $4.50 to take the most first innings wickets for Australia. I have the same on Phil Hughes to get the highest aussie score in the first dig @ $7.50, money back if fails to reach double figures.

I couldn't believe Tubby Taylor saying at drinks and then re-iterating at lunch how good our openers bowled, they were tripe and bowled probably 1.5 good balls an over. Simply not good enough with a deck that was doing so much, too many balls that the batsmen didn't have to play at.

I agree, Pattinson struggled early with the swing and it was all over the shop! Siddle at one stage was going at near 6 an over and Agar was either too full or too short. I thought the 1st session we bowled awful but a couple of good balls kept us in the hunt.

As sad as it is, with Smith and Hughes at the crease we are probably looking at the future of Australia test batting.

These two are the only blokes out of our current batters that may hold a spot for the next 5 years. These two are also the only blokes who have made selectors pick them through sheer amount of runs in the shield.

Boy i hope they can put on a decent partnership, would love to see one of these ton up while the other makes a fifty.

I think the worst part of that is he scored 3x 50's with a H/S of 90 - that's more than half his runs in 3 knocks, means he averaged closer to 20 over his other 5 digs

Why not consider a Ferguson or Cosgrove? Ferguson is handy in the field, and capable with the bat, and Cossie might be bit larger but at least he sees the ball and hits it!

I'm talking about over a 4-5 year period he has constantly averaged around the 40 mark in the shield, not this flash in a pan one half decent season stuff.

Must be eating you alive that Smith is the second best bat in the country while ur boy cam is still spudding away with the spooners

You have gone very quiet on here since the blonde don has done good!!

Agree, Imagine what a Gillespe/McGrath combination would have done in those conditions, would've rolled them for under 100.
Point is that the bowling could've and should've been a lot better.

It would be nice for him to go on tonight and get a big buteven if he doesn't if he can come out and average 40 at number 5 or 6 that will be a solid career.

Surely even you can admit he is the least of our worries at present when if comes to the batting line up.
