What's happened with the Tigers?, playing off in the GF last year to this year trying to avoid the wooden spoon, this season would have to be so unpredictable.

Good summary JJ. Bays, Strath and Willunga have finals sown up for sure. At the half way mark 4 wins is good enough to make the 5 and last year 8 wins was enough at round 18 whereas the 2 prior years 5th had 10 wins and 11 wins. I think Creeks will win more than they lose in round 2 and will make the 5, leaving Goolwa, Compass, McLaren and Victor to fight for the last spot.

Was surprising to see Goolwa go down to McLaren yesterday and Victor finally put 4 good quarters together to get over Compass. Hopefully that taste of success for Victor after 5 consecutive losses will boost morale and confidence as they really have underachieved so far. Tough ask to make finals with only 3 wins on the board so far though.

Will be an interesting run in. I think injuries will play a massive part. Still reckon there are a few teams no where near full tilt. As an example I still think we are dangerous at full strength but half way through and still cant get pur best side on the park. Will these teams get there with enough games to spare? How do teams like bays go if they have 5 or so out?

Their ressies are 7 and 2 so you'd think they have enough depth LuvsFooty, but to cover Welsh, Perrie and 3 others?????? They would be shorter than Black Caviar tho at full strength. Willunga will be right up there and again their ressies are second. Outside those, Creeks know what it takes and have been massively patient to get themselves back. Says a lot about the coaching staff I reckon, and yes they have picked up some quality along the way but good clubs do that. Their ressies have come from 9th to be in the 5 as well. Just reckon you guys need your top 21 on the park as your depth is a bit sus. I do like your discipline tho, with workrate, body language especially to the coach, and your quickness with rotations. You can shape the 5 I reckon and I have been saying that since round 2. :)

Spot on there. Our b's along with strath and VH are pretty ordinary, so there's probably 3 clubs that need it to all go right

Good question - lost a few players it seems and replacing them with only 9 points available is difficult. Still some quality on the list though. Have to wonder if the ex-president took the cheque book with him?

Wouldn't have been pretty at Strath today. Strath 3-6 d Compass 3-5. Compass 0-5 to Strath 0-1 in the last!

Cheque book no issue, regardless of what some of you people think, you all pay so don't hide. Points are a small issue but injuries are a massive one. Yank's best 15 are good but take 4 or 5 out with injury and you dig in to Ressies players. Our best juniors are 16,15,14 and lower, so getting them to step up quickly will always be difficult. Most loyal players have stayed at Tigerland regardless of $$$$ so good on them, we get our best team on the park and write us off at your own peril. We just need to find a few more avenues in attack. :(

Of course all clubs pay YM, there's no denying that. I was merely offering up some thoughts to old fullbacks question. As I've said before Yank have had a high turnover of imports in recent years and done a fantastic job of replacing those that leave. But I've always thought that wasn't going to be sustainable for too long and it seems this year there were more losses than gains, and perhaps having less points or $ (or both) had a bearing on that.

I also said there is still some real quality on the list - but as you say, they do seem to have had many out of the side, and with the comp as tight as it is that has a huge effect unless you have the depth of Willunga or McLaren. Everything would have to fall into place for them to make finals, but they will definitely win more games with a full side.

So is Wilson gone?

field of dreams wrote:Cheers YM. Good to see us beat a quality side. Getting the best side on the park is part of the challenge. With 3 rounds played we've used 28 through the A's already. Off the top of my head I can think of 5 of our best side that didn't play Saturday either (4 yet to play at all).

Out of interest - number of players played A's so far:

24: Go, EB, St, MtC
25: McL, Wi
28: My, Ya, VH
29: LC

dogsrbarkin questioned what my point was after this.

Well after 10 rounds maybe it makes more sense. Something we all know - having your best side out there is a huge benefit, but it also shows some reasons for Creek and Yank's form. This shows the premiership table in order, the number of players used and the number of players that have played at least 9 games:

EB 28 16
ST 33 12
WI 31 10
MC 28 17
GO 32 14
VH 35 14
LC 37 8
MY 33 11
ML 28 17
YA 39 7

Yes Bays are a very good side, but such a stable team and few injuries are a great help.
Compass are performing better than most would have predicted, again only 28 used and 17 played 9+.
ST, WI, VH, MY and GO have had all used plenty of players (31-35) and 10-14 have played 9+
McLaren stick out as an anomaly. Have depth, but haven't really needed it. They are a pretty reasonable and even side IMO, but lack the class most other sides have on board. IIRC they had a very stable team in the first round last year too, but managed to win games too.
LC and Yank have really struggled to get their side on the park, but Creeks are starting to do so.

FOD Wilson has gone , and played for Freeling yesterday , even with the others in I doubt very much if Yank would have got within 5 of Myponga yesterday. I have said all year that Yank would not play finals in 2013 however I didn't think they would drop off so fast. I would think based on the comp and where they are at I think they will struggle to win another game for the year. Injuries are hurting them but I think the points removed at the start of the season haven't helped also .

So I hear there was a little trouble in the Goolwa changerooms yesterday after the match... thought the recruit you sent to Victor this year was the problem with all that stuff...  Also notice not many of the Goolwa boys in the clubrooms afterwards as well...

I can only think of 2 players not there. One in hospital which I guess we will consider as a legitimate excuse and the other is never there because he coaches basketball on Saturday nights. If you can think of any specific names put it out there. Bays presence in the club was good.
