Round 14 - Central v Eagles @ Playford Alive Oval (Sat 30/6)

Postby Big Phil » Sun Jun 24, 2012 11:05 pm

The Doggies are ticking along nicely, coming off a comfortable win against the Tigers, while the Eagles are on their way back from that disastrous start to the year to peg themselves off the bottom of the ladder. These two clubs have a lot of respect for each other and always have competitive contests. This will be no different, no doubt.

I think there may be a few changes this week for the Dog in what should be a pretty tough game in wet conditions.

Looks as if Tom Collier will be out this week so one of either Matty Westoff, Jay Nash or Yves Sibenaler will come in for him. James Gowans should get off at the tribunal but hey maybe rested anyway for Chris Gowans to come back into the side.

Josh Vater has given his best crack but unfortunatly i think its time for him to have a run in the ressies. I also wouldnt be surprised with Pumpa starting to play again if the club rests Jack Hannath one week because he has carried the rucks all year.

Dog by 17 points.

Will Reichart hold his spot and if so surely he doesnt go to Grocke.

Was funny on the weekend for once i actually thought he went alright, won most of his one on one contest then looked in the paper and Kirkby had kicked 5 on him, and that was with alot of help from Goodrem dropping in the hole. That tends to be the way with Reichart while he does well his opponent tends to still kick goals.

His also a tad of a panic merchant which resulted in 2 goals to Kirkby, the first goal of the game came from a free kick into forward 50 which he just wrapped his arms around Kirkby. In the 3rd Kirkby got away from him while on a lead and he pushed Goodrem who then skittled into Kirkby resulting in a free and goal.

Hopefully Salter may be back this week? See he was named in the best players in the reserves so presume he played close to a full game? Hall also in the best players in the reserves so would think these two would be pressing for selection. Would be surprised if we keep both Smith and Knights this week after their performances against Port and the way the Crows struggled.

Central have a chance to put a stop to the Eagles brief resurgence, which I'm sure they would be very keen to do. The Eagles on the other hand have the chance to make a statement and bring life to their season and if they can win, for the first time this season they will be well and truly on the front foot with a strong belief that the first half of the year was just a bad dream.

Good to see Hall respond with a good game in the reserves. That is what he has to do. However IMO one game there and back into the league won't cut it. He needs to demonstrate good form in the reserves for at least 2 weeks before even thinking about being recalled.

I'd like to see Salter come back in but we might be a bit top-heavy going into the game. Tough call.

Hall was named best against North in the reserves the week before as well, so has played 2 weeks.

And of those last 8 Central have won at Elizabeth, I don't think any have been floggings. We generally play fairly well up there but fall short.

Hopefully Collier comes up. He would be a huge loss. I will miss this game and the Norwood game, going to be in Melbourne for work for two weeks. Probably two of the biggest games of the year for us too!! Damn work!

I wouldnt be to dissapointed if Hynes came in if Collier is an out.

Or if Collier does play Hynes in for Reichart, i reckon his got a huge future as a key defender in the Yves Sibenaler mould.

Eagles by 2 goals. Potentially, without a couple of tall defenders we'll struggle. I'd like to see Knights go to the Crows and Symes back.

Interesting Collier has been named and no extra tall on the bench or in the side. Obviously this can change but normally we name an extended bench with the extra player in the side. Hopefully Collier does play.
