Never saw him play but my late father said he was one of the best players he had seen. A true legend of the game.

Sad to hear of his passing. I got to meet bob and I even got him to sign my Football Budget a few years back. Bob was great he even spent some time with my twins talking to them even though they were babies.

RIP Bob Hank, a true great of the SANFL. Saw him in attendance a few times at Footy Park for AFL games, a few years ago.

Heard a story that Torrens coach Dick Jones took Hank off early in what turned out to be his last game. So may not have been the send off he deserved perhaps.

Sad day for Torrens people everywhere.

Max of Ridleyton wrote:When I was about 5 years old my parents bought me an autograph book. Just after this we went to the Adelaide Oval to see West Torrens play West Adelaide. After the game my Dad lifted me over the fence and told me to go out to the players to see if I could get some autographs. Being a shy little kid I ran on to the Oval and just stood there as these huge men walked past me. Then one of the fooltballers came up to me and asked if I was looking for autographs. He then took the book and pencil from me and called some of the player over -- both West Torrens and West Adelaide. After getting about 12 autographs he then took me back to the fence to Mum and Dad. The man was bob Hank and from the day I have had fond memories of him. A sad day.

The above was the comment from Adelaide Now. Brilliant to read and paints a real picture of the quality of the man.

I saw some of his last games when I was a kid.
My older sister started taking me to Norwood matches with her in 1957 and IIRC each team played twice in a season then - with an occasional 3rd time on a neutral ground like Kensington Oval.
He was past his best by then but the basic talent still showed.

The Eagles have advised when and where for Bob Hank's Memorial Service...

An email from the Eagles wrote:The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club advises its Commercial Partners and Members that the Memorial Service for Bob Hank will be held tomorrow, Thursday the 21st of June, in the Magarey Room, AAMI Stadium at 2pm.

The Magarey Room can be accessed from the western, West Lakes Shopping Centre side of the Stadium, with entry available to the right of the Checkside Tavern entrance.

A wake will follow the Memorial back at Oval Avenue, Woodville South downstairs in the Eagles Clubrooms.

The service today was a fitting farewell to a champion footballer and champion person. His final lap around the oval with the tribute on the old scoreboard, the old and current Eagles theme songs in the background and then the siren sounding was a very moving moment.
Trust the process.

It was really great. Awesome to see how much he was respected by ALL. It was humbling to see and hear of all his amazing achievements, which has never been a focus with the hanks, he was just another one of the brothers working in the market garden when i was a kid! He had an amazing sense of humour, definitely a legend, especially as i knew him! Pop did a great speach too, for an 87 year old in front of 2000 people is no mean feat.
great slide shows and interviews throughout, which would be great for every footy supporter to see!
RIP Bob.
