Rnd 5 - Port Magpies v Central @ Alberton (Sat 21/4)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Apr 16, 2012 11:52 am

The Maggies will be keen to bounce back from their loss to Norwood and the Dogs will be confident after notching up their first win for season 2012. This should be a good game with Port not having beaten Central at all since season 2006.

The game will be covered on 1197am 5RPH

Will be real tough game real interesting selections for the Dogs this week.

With Hardy showing he can play as a permanent forward and our whole side looking better with him there it will be interesting to see if Lairdy brings in another ruckmen to help out Hannath. Or will he just stay with Hannath knowing we are probably going to get smashed in the rucks no matter what two man combination we use.

James Gowans played ressies on the weekend, i didnt see much of the game so did he do enough to earn his spot back in the side?

Personally i would like to see Waldhutter come into the league side, to me seems a bit like Schiller and Dunne in that he could come in and make an impact straight away. That would mean Prior would come out the side, he tries hard and is a real goer but i think Waldhutter has a bit more class about him, reminds me a fair bit of Shannon Hurn.

Both sides seem to have a big gap between their best and their poorest, whoever can play the most consistent will win.

Hopefully Dogs in a close one.

Jim played very well, good enough to earn league selection this week.

Agreed. He had 22 disposals in the seconds last week and was very effective with the majority of them.

That would probably put Jackson OBriens spot in doubt then especially with Nason having a very good game.

Possibly. That being said though, while O'Brien has seemed disappointing to Dogs fans so far in the early days of his SANFL career, he is comfortably leading the Central stats for tackles, including another 10 on the weekend against South.

Roy Laird and the coaching staff like the players that really do the 1%'ers well and this has been a real highlight, IMHO, of Jackson's games so far. Certainly, he is not winning enough of his own football but I wouldn't be surprised if the selectors like what they see in terms of his defensive aspect and may persist with him still.

Time will tell, I guess.

I forgot about Luke Habel as well. My point more was no matter how many tackles a game OBrien got if James was to come back in its not going to be Boyd, Thomas, Goodrem, Williams, C.Gowans, Dutschke, Sansbury, Symes that get dropped before him.

How far away is Chad O

This should be a real good game.
Saw a bit of the Dogs on TV and they looked good early and had that game style working well again.
This game will show how much Port have improved and how much Centrals need to improve.
They hate each other so that always makes for a good game.

Really looking forward to this game. It's about time the maggies decide whether they are going to continue to be just competitive or are going to be a contender.

Yep, spot on. The Sturt game was unacceptable IMO and the Leg's loss was a case of being well beaten by a much better side.

Critical season defining game on Saturday. A win and we're off and running. Another loss and it's hard to see us challenging for top 3.

Absolutely. But a loss on Sat and I reckon that's the best we can hope for.

Or maybe his hair. Coming 2nd in the league to Jason Davenport for worst hair, according to my daughter. Maybe she hasn't seen Scott Lewis yet.

Darren Pfeiffer is devastated not to be top three here.
