Yeah, so 2 football clubs with very proud histories are reduced to running around in front of 2 men and a dog. Sad.

Hope Claremont come to town next year so I can finally get to see them play. Don't think we will be as strong thou with all the retirements and players drafted again.

Northern Blues as well so I can watch my nephew play.

I'll be there for the Port game then leave before that dirty, devious, home-wrecking, dog kicking AwFuL starts up.

This is what happens when a high profile club like North isnt in the comp.
This year our Foxtel Cilup matches were the main game even having Port v Freo as a warm up match to North v Labrador.
With no North the Foxtel Cup games have been demoted to be the warm up game.

You forgot crypto-facist.

Anyone got any idea of how much Foxtel Cup prize money there is compared to the amount the AFL spend on 'overseas development'?

Here's a PDF of the schedule on the VFL website.

This one includes the local starting times for the AFL matches at the respective stadia, as well as the following broadcast AFL matches and times.

Looks like in most cases a very large time gap between the Foxtel Cup game and the AFL

March 31 @ Gold Coast - 2 hours 40 mins
April 7 @ AAMI - 6 hours 10 mins
April 14 @ Eithiad - 6 hours 40 mins
April 21 - N/A
April 28 - N/A
May 5 @ SCG - 6 hours 40 mins
May 12 @ MCG - 3 hours 50 mins
May 19 @ Darwin - 6 hours 10 mins

Reasoning ?
- From a telecasting perspective there was a problem last year with the "GAP" between end of Foxtel Cup game and the start of the AFL match.
- Fox Sports in 2011 overcame that by delaying the Foxtel Cup broadcast by 30 - 60 mins so that dead time was not noticed by the viewer.
- In 2012 they have decided to broadcast all games LIVE but without an AFL match straight after.

As for the schedule South Adelaide are certainly in the "group of death"
as would need to beat to get to the semi finals
- defending Foxtel Cup champ Williamstown
- then either defending VFL champ Port Melbourne or NEAFL champ NT Thunder (who were best of minnows last year)

Port Magpies probably have best chance of any SANFL team to make the semi's, Subiaco were 3rd best of the WAFL teams during minor round last year and that game is at AAMI Stadium... then it would be a trip to Tas / Qld to take on Morningside / Launceston.

West have a very tough opening game v Claremont in Perth, Tigers have dominated WAFL (except for 2010 GF) over past two years. If they can somehow snag a win should not have an issues with Eagles / Vultures in quarters.

Cynical answer: So punters don't hang around after the first match, ensuring they pay full tote to re-enter the stadium should they care to come back for the AFL game.

But seriously folks - a 6 hour break?!? FFS, there is no point in playing these games in the same stadia which will host AFL games on the same day. Play the damn games at suburban ovals where there might be some bloody atmosphere. Or sort the flippin' comp out properly in the first place.

While I'm currently unsure as to the reasons for the timing of the games, there's no way Foxtel are going to pay for a broadcast setup at a suburban ground while TV cameras are already in place at Football Park.

It's called simple business economics.
