Bayman are you saying as there's no AFL match for Port, next weeks reserves game won't count.

With all due respects , why post the "rumour" then.

I know you love your rumours Bayman but I can't see anything at all sinister in this from what I have read.

He's fit but isn't in the 22 for Port so he plays for the Bays ... there's not much more to it than that.

Not sure why people get worked up over whether AFL listed players qualify for finals or play finals if they have. Rarely does 1 player make a difference, and they certainly won't win you a GF.

There seem to be an awfully large number of posters making up the qualification rules as pleases them here. If Cornes being selected robs Glenelg of his services then Henderson being selected robs the Dogs of him being available for finals. Sadly though, I strongly suspect neither were available some time ago. But I'm happy actually for him to play for Glenelg. Means Glenelg get slow and predictable when they get the ball, something fairly easily beaten. I'd have thought after seeing Backwell get 40 useless touches week after week then suddenly 20 damaging ones with a new attacking role (that somehow saw Glenelg rise from crap to contender) that the bays would understand it's not the number of touches but what you do with them (particularly the speed of them) that really matters. Cornes has been playing the 1980s crappy "I want 40 touches a game" style that leads to individual glroy but team humiliation style of game.

Skipworth? I think it was, and barnaby French played major roles for sturt in 2002 and eagles in 2006. Not sure who won the jack oatey those years.

Skipworth won in 2006 IIRC but Cicollella was widely regarded as BOG. But the Eagles were that much better than Centrals that day there could have been easily 10 blokes ahead of the best dogs player.

The point stands though, all the AFL listed players in GFs I've seen, French stands out as the one whose impact was telling. The rest either did a more minor role or did very little at all.

Agreed though, flags have been won without afl player influences.

French was the first one that came to my mind .. Think Beinke and Chalmers might have had a decent finals series in Ports run in 1998 from memory

There was a lot of talk about changing the qualification rules after '98.
Of course if Sturt hadn't kicked so poorly in the GF it might've been a non-issue.

Looks like Glenelg FC really want Kane Cornes playing finals footy with us, and haven't given up hope

 http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/ive ... 6128939676

"Cornes was yesterday prepared to close his season, having endured Port Adelaide's worst year in the AFL and not being qualified to play in the SANFL finals for Glenelg. He had needed to play five games for the Bays to be eligible for the major round, but was stranded on four.

But late last night the club was looking at a way for Cornes to qualify, despite Glenelg having a bye in the final round, and said it would seek advice over whether Cornes could qualify by playing reserves for the lowest played side - where during the season players from other clubs are allowed to gain match practice."

That is an interesting development. No doubt Rucci will be on about how it's akin to the underarm incident this week. Well, perhaps not. But if it's in the rules and Glenelg come to an agreement with Cornes (and Port I guess along the line) then good for them. Again though, where the * are the rules printed for all to see? Must be the only comp that doesn't have it's rules publicised. I'd have thought the end of the AFL season saw the end of qualification for SANFL finals. It seems the most logical given a player can't be promoted or dropped and we'd have to assume a player would be available.

Let him play, he really helped them today. He will get 40 touches but 30 of them will go to the opposition and none of his kicks will go 30 meters. Glenelg have a great reserves side and u18's and one of these guys should be playing ahead of him.
And if Glenelg meet Port in the Elimination final there is no way they will let him play

Rules are rules so too bad, so sad if Kane hasn't qualified. There have been too many "exceptions" and grey areas over the years re qualification which have been (or should have been) tightened. If Glenelg mange to find some loophole or the league "softens" then it's a joke! Playing in another SANFL clubs reserves team is purely to give AFL players match fitness when the AFL season is alive and when their allocated or SANFL "home" club have a bye. It should not be used as a back door qualification after all he is a contracted AFL listed player and his AFL Club is out after this week.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

WAFL has set a precedent in their completion by allowing West Coast player Matt Rosa who is aligned with Peel Thunder to play with another club's reserves side in the finals as the 23rd man  . Which ever side he ends up playing against is also allowed to select a 23rd man and any West Coast player is also allowed to play for their WAFL club without the qualifying games provided their WAFL club is also still alive and West Coast.
