Interesting article by Bob Ellis about Mike Rann.

Ellis is, of course, a sympathetic left-wing writer, but it's an interesting read.

Yes!
Even my two ALP-SA old school mates admit the Chantelois scandal was based on fact, and that "Mike has always been an 'active' member!"

"3 strikes for Labor young gun":

A RISING star of Labor’s right wing Shop, Distributive and Allied [SDA] employees union has been found guilty of his third Code of Conduct breach in local government.

Lucas Jones, 21, was found guilty by Tea Tree Gully Council last Tuesday night of “disruptive [and] aggressive behavior” during a residents’ meeting last year.

Jones is a former employee of Labor MPs Tom Kenyon and Leesa Vlahos.

TTG Council endorsed a report by the independent Local Government Governance Panel, which found that a complaint about Jones’ behavior had been sustained arising from community meetings arranged by Tea Tree Gully Hotel.

It’s the third adverse finding against Jones, who was stood down from the Deputy Mayor’s position last April.

In two separate cases, the Governance Panel also found against him last April and again in July regarding his dealings with residents.

There is also a fourth investigation, understood to relate to a charity cricket match.

Saw this on AdelaideNow today.

Rebel Young Libs target South Australia Liberal Leader Isobel Redmond.

Opposition leader Isobel Redmond has hit back at claims by the Young Liberal Movement she is "totally useless" saying they did not represent the younger generation.

Ms Redmond was criticised by three members of movement group on Facebook last Sunday who claimed she was not Liberal and questioned whether she had any policies.

Interested in hearing what others think of her performance as leader and her chances of winning the next election, particularly after the exit of Mr. Rann...

As a former Young Lib there are some absolute nutters in that lot. F***en scary individuals who if it wasn't for Daddy's silver spoon would have nothing. Their grip on reality is tenuous at best. They are as scary as the loopy/looney left of the young ALP/Green nutters I dealt with when I dabbled in student politics at Flinders in the 90s.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Further news

Senior Liberals have failed to publicly rebuke young guns who called state leader Isobel Redmond as "totally useless".

The Advertiser yesterday revealed three prominent Young Liberal Movement members used Facebook to smear her leadership just hours after the party's annual general meeting at the weekend.

Ms Redmond yesterday said she would not "try to control what anyone says on social media" and the trio didn't "speak for the younger generation".

Lensick and Birmingham. Two of the better more reasoned people I met. No problems with them. But some of the younger ones....

After listening today to Isobel Redman sledging Mike Rann suggesting that he was going tomorrow to announce a tram extension down Gouger street, I have to say that if she is the leader of the Liberals at the next State Election, they are going to find it pretty tough going to win it.

First off the bat I don't agree with the Liberals policy of putting stumbling blocks in front of improvements to public transport. I wrote to the Liberals last time they were in office and asked them what they were going to be doing about getting disabled accessible Trams and they did not want a bar of it. Isobel Redman shoots her mouth off at every opportunity but seems to be strangely silent when asked what it is that the Liberal Party will do in relation to improving the infrastructure of this state.

It seems as if the State Liberals expect that just because the ALP are struggling that they are the automatic next choice and should be elected because they do nothing to win the election except for watching Labor lose it. Keep going as they are and there is a strong chance they will get beaten again. Its time they had strong leader that had some actual vision for this State and was prepared to make that clear to everyone.

There are some grounds to worry about grand and expensive projects when there are already massive holes in state finances.
Not only are we committed to expensive projects, but they have spent the state superannuation funds again.
The US and European examples should make it clear that in the "developed" world, where economic growth is falling, debt growth is dangerous.
Real economic growth is with China and India, not with the old establishment that used to be able to carry deficits, betting on future growth to pay the bill.

Isobel Redmond, of course, can't win with the anti-Liberals.
If she doesn't criticise the government she is ineffective, and if she does she is just obstructionist.
Even my former state ALP MP, old school friends, expect her to romp in the next election.
In fact one of them said, "She'd be better for the state than any other turkey on either side."
He sees Jay Weatherall as the ALPs only hope, but a thin one.

AdelaideNow understands Labor will promote the Right faction's Chloe Fox and the Left's Leon Bignell to fill the vacated Cabinet positions.

Labor environmentalist Susan Close is poised for pre-selection in Port Adelaide and will likely face a challenge from Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Gary Johanson, a former Liberal, as an independent.

Former Hawker Britton director Zoe Bettison is the frontrunner for Labor preselection in Ramsay, the party's safest seat.

THE Labor Party pub that hosted strippers and welcomed bikies has closed and may be sold.

ALP state secretary Kyam Maher said the party terminated the lease of the Colac Hotel in Port Adelaide because tenant Goldedge Holdings had failed to pay rent and had not responded to formal notices for payment. He said the pub would remain closed until the party decided what it would do with it.

"We just don't know what we will do, we will need to get some advice on what all the options are," he said.
