TAS V NSW PURA CUP FINAL

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Wright to Bollinger, OUT, AND THERE IT IS, WILD WRIGHT GETS A FIVE-fer, he's got Doug Bolly plumb and the Tasmanian players, the fans, the kids, the mums and dads, the shop-keepers, the chemists, the miners, the candlestick makers, the whole island state is up!

Wonderful scenes here for Tasmania, there's David Boon looking on like a godfather, great win for the locals in a hard-fought game that NSW never gave up on but in the end Tasmania's destiny was to win this cricket match. Good on em.
And that's it from us here at Bellerive, conggratulations to Tasmania, enjoy the win it's been emotional

all out:149 wright 5/13 off 6.5 overs

as said by the internet commentator

Maybe now people can stop giving SA crap about letting the Bananna benders win their first one.
Have fun NSW!

Agree congratulations to the Tigers, the best side of the season. However NSW with no bowlers finishing second is a lot better performance than was served up by the Jellybacks in that final all of those years ago. We needed Stewie Clark to win this shield and our year was over as soon as Lee went down and they sent Clark to the West Indies. There are plenty of positives for the Blues as plenty of young players have had successfull introductions into the domestic scene or have developed from last year

HENRIQUES
COWAN
CHRISTIAN
ROHRER
SMITH
COYTE

The Blues could be even stronger next season but jeez we need a better captain and it might be time to blood a new leggie if Stuey gets called into the national side.

WELL DONE TASMANIA

Would be a close run thing for man of the match honours out of Luke Butterworth and Damien Wright.

Butters performance was spread out throughout the match and he deserves the good oil.

Fantastic effort by Tassie, they have finally broken through for their first Shield win... it will be a huge weekend on the island.
Pretty good final even though there was a big final margin, it was only when Butters and Clinger put on centuries that the game was really out of NSW's reach.

The difference in this game was the bowlers.
Both top orders were ordinary
JAQUES the only half century for the Blues 82 NS 1st innings
BAILEY 50 DEVIUTO 64 in TA 2nd innings

*THE TA BATSMEN OUTBATTED THE NS BATSMEN*

TA 340
WRIGHT 67
BUTTERWORTH 66
HILFENHAUS 0*

NS 230
WRIGHT 3/30
BUTTERWORTH 4/33
HILFENHAUS 3/88

TA 460
WRIGHT 47
BUTTERWORTH 106
HILFENHAUS 7*

NS 149
WRIGHT 5/13
BUTTERWORTH 0/19
HILFENHAUS 4/22

On face value BUTTERWORTH is man of the match
But WRIGHT had a blinder and
HILFENHAUS took 7 top order wickets

BUTTERWORTH 172 RUNS + 4/52
WRIGHT...........114 RUNS + 8/51
HILFENHAUS.......007 RUNS + 7/107 [did not get out ]

Damien agro WRIGHT must have gone very close as well.

TA killed NS and deserved the victory
HILFENEXPRESS has further emphasised his undoubted ability to the Australian selectors.

A great win! Well done Tassie! Was so good to watch the final on tv. Has been a while. Hilfenhaus was very impressive. Perhaps he'll be the new leader of the Aussie bowling attack within 12-24 months. His use of the short ball on a pretty flat pitch was exceptional.

mal i pose to you the prospect that Clingleffer's innings was the most important of the match. He steered Butterworth through his innings and at 6/176 Tassie were in a bit of strife. A true innings of determination and class. Man of the match IMHO.

I'll agree with you again on Hilfenhaus by the way. Will be a superstar. Get him a baggy green asap.

CLINGLEFFER , here is a rag to riches story.
Was dropped during the year when TA tried the PAINE opening the batting and keeper selection.
To make a ton in a final batting 7 is Gilchristesque.
1ST innings TA 5/75 CLINGLEFFER 42 priceless runs
2ND innings TA 5/157 and makes a ton

ROD you are on the ball MOM consideration
What more could a keeper do.

My order

1.BUTTERWORTH
2. WRIGHT
3. CLINGLEFFER
4. HILFENHAUS
5. KATICH [his captaining got the 5th vote for Tassie !]

Can't really argue with your order of players mal. I still think Clingleffer was MOM but it's all subjective i guess. Butterworth 66, 106 and 4/33 had a huge influence as did Wright. I just thought Clingleffer was absolutely outstanding. Refused to get out when Tassie needed him most and really adapted perfectly to the situations he found himself in. Had a good game with the gloves as well.

During the match Damien WRIGHT looked up towards the heavens when
taking some of his wickets.
After the game he said it was for his mate Scott MASON who died.
MASON I think is the guy who made 180 odd in a match about 2 years ago.
What happened to MASON ?

Had a heart attack whilst batting in the nets and died 2 days later.
