I think that he is stretching out the first few episodes to introduce each character

The surfer guy was mildly amusing (though he's done the 'kick me in the nuts' routine previously) but s*mouse is just dire. I wonder how the black actors he is working with take it?

One of its many problems: only need a scene to establish a character, not an entire episode.

Lacking a narrative drive.

Frustrating because it's actually there - Daniel organizing the party - but it's relegated to the shadows every week. Should be the main storyline in every episode: how Daniel goes about getting these "legends" to Dunt.

Instead, we get these long, rambling, monotonous, repetitive exposition pieces to camera.

As for structure, well it's a complete and utter mess.

Lilley is a sketch comedian whose shows play like glorified sketch comedy only now there's nobody game enough to challenge his "genius" at any stage of production.

Giving us this glib, bloated and, worst of all, unfunny, self-indulgence...

Tonight's episode was the best so far.

Really enjoyed the gay Japanese skater's mother! No Gran again though :(

Still not doing it for me really. He's great at portraying the characters, but the material just isn't there for mine.

I did like the bit where Daniel had the shoes to peg at Nathan's dick though.

Much better last night. The "wanking guards" were great. And his "hidden folders".

Redeemed itself slightly last night.
No S.Mouse was good.
The surfer is someone we all know - that self indulgent bloke that hasn't grown up, who has a wife getting more and more peeved at him, who he'll lose and wonder why. Football clubs are populated by them.
The wank guards were pretty funny.
I laughed a lot last night, compared to previous weeks.
However, it's not as strong as SMH.

Yeah I agree, last night was better but I think the problem is he's spread himself out over too many characters and could/should have had a couple less.
Smouse wasn't needed.
The wanking was hillarious especially when he kept going at it after getting a boot chucked at his nether region!
Chris Lilley's at his funniest when you forget its him playing the character, he does that with a couple but with Smouse and a couple of others to lesser degree you dont.

Mind you Grand Mother...... is catchy!

Anyway, I'm off to go skate boarding, GAY STYLE!

The Japanese mother sounds a lot like Ja'mie with an accent, in terms of the sort of things she says and does.

Less said about Smouse the better. The father is a good laugh, but as for Smouse....

Did have a good laugh at the "guards" for Nathan also  , and DW hit the nail on the head about Blake Oldfield and footy club characters. The scene where the wife arrived to break up the fight was great.

Agree with Wedgie overall, too many characters spreads the cleverness of Chris Lilley too thin.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

Agreed - as a result we now haven't seen Gran (one of the better characters in the show) for 2 weeks, and each episode seems to have an over emphasis on 1 character who then just becomes background fodder in future episodes.

I feel like each episode is getting better, but with only marginal improvement. Next week is episode 5 (of 12) and I'm still not 'feeling' it. Some good scenes, I love the Dunt boys, and the surfer storyline has its moments, but otherwise it's been pretty slow and uninteresting.
