i'm catholic

i'm for good friday night footy

perhaps use it as a charity game & say $1.00 per ticket from the gate be given to a chosen charity ?

as mentioned i'd think it is more to do with the booze, otherwise movie theatres & the like wouldn't be open for business either, so to those that drink at the footy could you forgo drinking alcohol at one game of the year ?

finally i can't see how 'good friday' is more 'special' than christmas day & they used to play sheffield shield cricket on christmas day at the adelaide oval (sa v qld) & i have some memory reading about a test match being played on christmas day many years ago

I'm off to a BBQ this afternoon. One couple there are extremely catholic, so will only be eating fish and drinking white wine. :? Hope their food doesn't get tainted by my steak and snags.

you blasphemous Heathen ...

Yes, apparently I'm going to a fictitious place of fire in the middle of the earth. I'll have to remember to pack my swimmers.

Being one of the wowsers I do believe in this day and it should remain sacred. 1 day per year is not the end of the world. A time of reflection and what this day means for those concerned.

And you have every right to "celebrate" as you see fit. Why do the rest of us have to follow your archaic rules?

Australia played India at the Adelaide Oval in 1967. The second day's play was on Xmas Day, which was a Monday. The great irony was that the previous day, a Sunday was a rest day. In those day you could play sport on Xmas Day but not on a Sunday.

Subiaco v East Perth today at Leederville. Could be the litmus test for other leagues around the country.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Will alcohol and a BBQ be available? Is there a catholic friendly area?

not my rules, personally i don't care & would be happy to have a game, bbq, alcohol etc served up tonight, i just posed the question IF as mentioned earlier it was just about a booze licence would drinkers give it up for one game, i reckon if that happened & a game was programmed for good friday within 3 years you'd have the licence laws changed & we would all have a sherbert or three at a footy game on good friday night

Rugby league and union have played for years. Night games is the way to go. Let people who want to celebrate and spend time with their family do so during the day and then go to a footy game at night. Reckon the games played last night would have got bigger crowds if they were played tonight

If the yanks play sport on Good Friday, I don't see why we don't. As a whole they're hell alot more religious than what we are.
I don't go to many SANFL or AFL games as I still play but if they were to showcase a Port vs Norwood game on Good Friday I'd be there for sure.

How would you feel if your team was scheduled to play on Good Friday resulting in four of your star players refusing to play and you losing to a team that you would normally defeat? This could be the scene we are faced with if Good Friday football goes ahead. I think we can cope with ONE day of the year being kept sacred and football-free.
Re the comment about Christmas being more sacred than Good Friday, for believers today is the day that Jesus died on the cross for us, a far more sacred act than his birth.
Cheers and enjoy Good Friday whichever way you decide to celebrate it.

Football isn't played on Xmas day, that'll do as the 1 sacred day. Good Friday is a nothing day for most of the community. Even people I know that believe in god have their family day on Sunday when ironically there's football on.

Anyway I'll be watching the live Rugby Union on TV this afternoon, pity the Rugby League isnt' on live too or that the rest of the world with so much sport is behind us and it isn't on our time till tomorrow morning.

My daughter was watching Ice Hockey today to get her fix.

Anyway, happy Jesus Death Day all. :D

PS Any chance some more fairy tales can be made up and believed so we can grab a few more days off please? :D
