What I find interesting is that South had no AFL players listed in our side and we won the match on Friday night. If push comes to shove, I think that the SANFL would do pretty well if all the AFL listed players were withdrawn from the competition. I also don't think that South are the only side to have discovered that they can win matches over sides with AFL listed players playing for them.
Perhaps it is time for the SANFL clubs to have another look at the current situation, if people within the AFL want to try and strongarm our competition into giving up our Reserves competition and so on, perhaps its time they were reminded who owns their respective clubs and for what purpose they exist - for nothing more than revenue streams to the SANFL. They would be more than welcome IMO to pay us the cost of their AFL licence indexed to 2011 and go compete on their own, replete with their own reserves sides in the VFL if that is the way they want to go. I have a suspicion that the SANFL would do just fine out of that arrangement with the new revenue streams from the investment of the funds and true market rates for the hire of whichever venue we own at the time for match day, training and rental for hosting their club and facilities on our property.
