The Riverland Independent Football League fought long and hard to arrive at that title as they were formerly known as the Riverland Independent B Grade Football League. There would be some old fellahs still around that would string you up for calling them B Grade, tongue in cheek or not. Even worse than calling the other mob 'The Big Six'.

My old man won the Renfrey Medal back in 1970, when it was classed as the B Grade Riverland Comp which included all riverland teams including independent teams and it probably takes some shine off the award when people look back at it now, because back in those days, the old boy say it was it pretty good comp. He then went on to lose the Whillas Medal on a count back while playing for Barmera to Julian Nickolai in 72, so the boys in that league could obviously play.

Probably fair to say a big discrepancy between what or was then and what it is now though. Indy footy serves its purpose well but

I've experienced both the RFL and the Indys and for someone not so committed to their football like me, the Indys win hands down.
Paringa in particular is a great club with a good family atmosphere and I know Moorook and Brown's Well are good clubs too.

Was good fun until you did that. I reckon Tim Smyth did his ankle that day too.
