John Rau was asked several times on radio whether the government would cover any cost over runs on this development and he kept saying the governemt had committed itself to only the announced amount.
That leaves it a bit of a gamble for the other groups as cost over runs seem to be fairly universal in major projects...

What people are forgetting is that 75% of people that ACTUALLY vote is needed. Australians generally dont vote if its not compulsory ie council elections. So going on 20,000 members i would guess 10% wont vote, that leaves 18,000 votes so if 4,500 vote NO then it is off. I would hope every member does vote either way.

Interesting to see that the crows no. 1 ticket holder/patron has canned the AO idea. If you have guys like him being negative about the idea i think he will sway alot of peoples ideas

Will the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment go ahead?

Postby White Line Fever » Thu Mar 03, 2011 6:40 pm

I'd actually prefer Adelaide oval to stay as is and just for cricket IF they build a new stadium in west parklands...

But we know that won't happen for another ten years (making Adelaide 20years behind the other states) so we gotta turn AO into a suitable ground for cricket & AFL.

For every member at footy park there is 10 guys that don't want to go to west lakes.

It will turn the CBD into a Mecca for visitors an locals every weekend.

No personal attack on RC but guys who can't see the benefit of a full redevelopment have got their heads in the sand.
Probably the same crowd who wanted a one way expressway.

Let's give Adelaide a jumpstart and make the city alive in every way possible.

What other option is there?
Stay at AAMI....
It is dead down there.. Joke of a ground

Wedgie what is your preferred solution?

Not SACAs fault you guys decided to jump off 5 years ago and damage the strength of the afl brands in this state so dramatically.

You're the only one on here with an inflated view of your own importance as far as I can see.

This stadium redevelopment isn't about which sport is more important than the other, or about one sporting association asserting it's dominance over the other - it's about how the Adelaide Oval can best cater to the people of South Australia, regardless of which sport they prefer.

Can't we all just get along and share? It's a pretty simple concept.

Would love to share. But we arent .

I tell you what Giner you vote your way (if you get a voite that is)

And Ill vote mine. Deal.

All I can say is if you guys are trying to sway saca voters to in favour of the re-deveopement.

YOu are doing an increbily bad job.

Well, you're passionate RC, I'll give you that.

I still don't see what about this proposal is bad for the SACA though. Lay it out for me clearly and without the bullshit RC - why don't you want this? Try to refrain from the personal attacks mate and just lay out some dot points. I'm a reasonable man, I'll give cudos to a good argument. But TBH at the moment all I'm hearing is the tantrum of a little boy who doesn't want to share his playpen.

As a Crows fan I'm quite happy to trek out to AAMI still, don't have a problem with it. Love my seats, love the footy express, very comfortable. But to have it all at one ground, a sporting hub like the MCG in Melbourne, what a prospect that is. Would be a real shame if it didn't happen.

The SACA want and need this..
Our state Needs this. It's a positive for everyone (including you!) think of the Spin offs in the CBD, tourism etc!
SACA members wait for your information that is coming in the mail, read it, and then make an informed vote. Don;t get ahead of yourself and miss the point! (the bigger picture)

Yep he struggled big time.

Biggest sign of hey members dont worry that your getting screwed. Is when they use the line "think of the bigger picture/future generations of sa" line.

As a member. Are the future generations/bigger picture going to pay my $400 saca membership for the next 10 years.

No.

Then guess what I and other mebers will not be considering.

YOu needed to make this agreement good for SACA members as we are voting on it.

You havent. And no lame guilt trip on us to consider AFL needs over ours will change my or other SACA members opinion. YOur just going to have to accept that.

Yet again do you want to know why 7000 people travelled from the Uk to Aelaide in December. And how much our local business/bigger picture loved that.

Any chance you could answer some of these question instead of just regurgitating your own personal point of view AFLflyer.

No wonder we're considered a backwater. Btw, anyone else see anything contradictory in the way RC defends the SACA compared to the way he hammers The Power and The Magpies? ;)

Also, why did your loyal SACA agree to changing the shape of the oval as part of the Western stand development so that it better suited our game if, as you say, that part of the development had nothing to do with football?

Out of all the options that are currently being proposed and have previously been proposed the Adelaide Oval redevelopment would be last for me.
I'm a Melbourne member of Geelong and watch all of my AFL at the MCG or the dome anyway.

here's one

PAFC have bank debt facilities that are ongoing as do the SACA. On one you are very defensive justifying ongoing financial viability on the basis that why else would the bank grant them a loan. On the other hand, where a bank has also granted a loan, it is evidence of why it is about to fall over. Both organisations have or will receive assistance to deal with the repayments of these debts (SACA have $85m granted to them under the AO deal remember).

They are generalisations I know and the current financial position of the two organisations is very different but if you use a certain argument on one why not keep an open mind on the other.

This is fun, I found another comparison, the SACA run a cricket ground and the Power lost their last Grand Final by a cricket score.
