not really. When the Crows came into being I bought a season ticket and was prepared to jump ship from Essendon who I've supported all my life. As it turned out when Paul Salmon led the Bombers onto to footy park for that inaugural trial match and everyone f*****g booed I decided it was to be Essendon 1 and Crows 2 and that's how I've remained. My partner is 100% Crows and we go to home games and I barrack for them no worries. When we go to Crows v Essendon games at West Lakes or in Melbourne I generally have to skull a valium thickshake to remain calm

100% less profit on those 11 home games. Revenue for an AFL game at AAMI Stadium is > the costs. Even for only 23000 people.

Well, how did we sustain 10 SANFL teams in our heyday with a lower population? How can Perth do it on a similar population? How does Melbourne with 3.0m sustain 9 teams?

How did the SANFL Inc make around $7m profit in 2008 and 2009 before non-cash adjustments and distributions to the SANFL clubs? Because we can't sustain 2 teams?

Note: 2010 annual report not sighted yet ($7m is catering, AAMI Stadium, AFC, PAFC combined - as I read the report).

BINGO!!!!!!

the rest are simply lame excuses.

Is their a guarantee of live against the gate will dissapear if AFl football moves to Adelaide Oval ?????

If not. I seriously Doubt much will change with Ports crowds, dont you agree in your highly unbiased opinion Port fan ??? ;)[/quote]

Live TV against the gate is unfortunately here to stay while the TV networks have their current agreements, and whereas some of the reasons may be lame excuses for the hardcore footy fan who goes every week the reality is people are not attending AAMI for a number of reasons. Rightly or wrongly AAMI is on the nose..
However, when AFL footy is at Adelaide Oval the fans will flock to it because for most it will be easier to get to. Gen Y will return in numbers as they won't have to travel to West Lakes, fans will be able to catch busses, trains and trams to the city and the stadium will provide far more undercover seating than AAMI. Surveys conducted by the AFL suggest more interstate supporters will attend a City based stadium. Surveys conducted by the SANFL suggest numbers will increase and lets not forget the SANFL, SACA, AFL and all SANFL clubs have signed off on the proposal.
I know many people who do not attend AAMI (for a variety of reasons) are saying they will be going to AO to watch AFL. I have no doubt that it will be a hugh success.

Perth's population is 500K more than Adelaide's these days. Melbourne's is closer to 4 million.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Footy in WA went to the dogs years ago as it was not managed right with the inclusion of the Eagles. The SANFL managed to protect the interests of the local comp better than the WAFL with the intro of AFL teams ,although now I have concerns. We still have a sense of history and "tribal' warfare with our teams .

YEp nothing but a huge profit Hondo for me Hondo.

BTW off the top of your head how much would it cost me for 15000 cartons of beer , 100 cartons of red wine & soft drink, pies, pasties, chips, nibblys , electricity generators to cook the food for the masses, staff to service the 23000 punters , floodlights so everyone can see where they are going, alcohol licence to serve that many people etc..............

If you honestly think everything is going to work out fine with 23000 crowds whilst the breakeven point at AAMI has been marked at 28000 to make profit. Go for it.

BTW Hondo. The argument is not would the SANFL make less revenue without Port Adelaide.

The argument is that the statement there is no way the SANFL could survive without Ports revenue. And as I have stated for 3 years that is 100% false.

The SANFL would struggle without this revenue ... 100% true

Think of it like the supermarket giants ... they sell farm produce like milk and make a killing, but the milk producer get SFA and many are close to being unsustainable.

Not hard really when you take the emotion out of the argument ... O:)

28,000 (or whatever the precise figure is) is the cut off point for Port to make a profit after paying their fees to the SANFL. NOT for the SANFL to make a profit.

And if Port doesnt make a profit = ends up costing SANFL.

Like we have seen in the last 5 years. Try and keep up.

It might struggle initially as it looks for alternate revenu streams. 100% agree I cant deny that Dedja.

But it certainly would not wither away and die due to the loss.

I don't think so. I cant see the link between the language you speak and racism. My point is that there is a huge population of non-English speaking people in Melbourne and they go to the round ball game don't they?

If Perth can support two teams so can Adelaide.

I think Port were the right choice for the second team..... just the people in charge messed up in regards to off field issues.

The clubs should have been based on Ports solid foundations (i.e. coaching staff as they were extremely successfull).....but have been marketed as a new club for people who wanted to follow a traditional style club in the AFL. It should have done everything to establish a strong replationship with the North and Western based SANFL clubs and their members/supporters.

Instead they thought those on the Magpie bandwagon would see them through..... well they f***ed up.

Instead of having two powerhouse clubs we have two lame ducks that want to merge with each other.
