Andrew McDonald is good though. Generally goes for less than 2 runs an over each match.. Gets the odd wicket, but the thing is he dries the runs up. This creates pressure on the batters and with a good bowler at the other end the wickets will come.
And for a guy who can't bat, he's hit 3 hundreds already this season.. Two in the same match against NSW with half the Australia team in it.
If he wasn't out injured surely he'd be in the Aussie team at the moment..

When you put it like that he sounds almost as good as me

Thanks to Auto and The one who does it with goats for their efforts in trying to field u21s sad to say lack of intrest prevented it from happening.It would seem things have changed a lot 95% of todays youth would rather go out all night and get wasted and or sit in front of a screen playing games or talking crap online.I find this in my own work each day they dont want to work or play sport just cruise on through life and acheive nothing . The other 5% are the lads who made every effort to form a side they wanted to play WHAT A FANTASTIC BUNCH OF YOUNG MEN sorry we let you down hope to see you in the senior side with a bit of luck.

I captained superbad last year Goatie, and batted him at 3 with the thought of him being a long term opener. Got him to open on a couple of occasions when i thought the bowling attack would suit him. Somewhere along the track though ive become more unsure of him as an opener. I think he'd do a lot of damage as a four/five. What do you see that would make him a good opener?

The decks we're training on have a healthy smattering of grass and it's fair to say they are 'lively'.. Last week at training, J.Smith aside, he handled the moving new ball & extra bounce as well as anyone. His defence was solid and he left the ball really well. Right there are the 2 most important tools to becoming a successful opener. Add to that, he drives reasonably well, he's only 16yo, he listens, he wants to learn, he works hard and he has a passion for the game. He has a lot of improvement left in his technique, shot selection and patience, but apart from Ricky Ponting & Sachin Tendulkar, who else didn't need improvement in those areas of batting when they were 16yo..??


I also maintain he has the ability to bowl half decent leggies if he practiced it all the time at training.

Lets be clear, there is no shielding of this fella. He has more talent than me with the bat (as do most). The jump from Div4 to Div1 is fairly big, and he needs to settle in. Moreover, he is definately a confidence player, so a few runs in any position are gold for him. He also has an ego and arrogance greater than me (and lochy for that fact) which i love, and will serve him well. What most people havent seen is that he does struggle a little early, and the runs he hs made has been under moderate pressure (2nd dig with PV, and NEK). He was also sceptical about being in this Div1 team. I think combined, opening at this stage of his career is not in his best interest, or the balanceof the team. Our team has alot of youngsters making a few at the moment (harry, azza, matty), and these 3 wil def be the run makers of the future.

Openers need temperament, style, technique and other stuff that i still havent worked out yet......we're not all like Bored and can just smash anything over the boundary.

well i think he ticks those boxes so whats the issue? The innings i seen him play he batted for a very long period of time and showed great patience and concentration, and played very straight.

Im not captain mate. I dont make those decisions. [b]In fact im not allowed to make suggestions during a game (smasha can back me up on that)[/b]. So its out of my hands. IMO theres an issue i think he needs to work on, as well as settling into A grade without feeding him to the lions. Let him ease in for a year and next year he'll still only be 17/18 and can move up. But as i said it wont take BB long to move him up the order. People like me will bat around the youngsters.

this day and age its a career/profession.. athletes need to move onto different clubs to keep stellar careers alive, gone are the days of one club players .... or in your case one trick ponies
