Local Government Elections

Postby mrjbeam1981 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 7:24 pm

Hello Everyone.

For those that don't know me my name is Joel Bayliss. I am currently an Elected Member on the City of Marion Council. I am running for re-election in the newly created Coastal Ward that incorporates Hallett Cove, Marino & Seacliff Park.

I am engaged to be married to my wonderful partner Hilda. We live within the City with our new puppy called Molly. I am a public servant focusing on supporting the Aboriginal community within the justice system.

In my time on council I have represented my community on:

* Hallett Cove School Council
* Suneden Special School
* Youth Advisory Council - Council Liasion

My current board experience includes:

* Board Member of Reconciliation of South Australia
* Board Member of Australia Day Council of South Australia

I was a finalist in the RAA Driving Force Leadership & Office for Youth Oustanding Young Achievers Award for the Channel 9 Young Achievers Awards in 2008 & 2009.

I am running for council as I believe that it is a way to give something back to my community. It is a community that I have been a part of for the past 26 years.

I am a very approachable person so if you see me at the shops or running along the coast of our wonderful city come and say hello. I will be your voice down South!

Vote 1 - Joel Bayliss when you recieve your voting papers the week beginning 25 October.

Mr JB - I see you have competition from a certain PS colleague in David Speirs! How many councillors are elected for Coastal Ward and is David a chance - or a candidate you have any affiliation with?

No election for the mayor in Salisbury - Gillian Aldridge has been re-elected unopposed.

I completed my vote for my ward yesterday.

Decided as I knew little about the three candidates that I decided to decide it by playing Chook Lotto

Not much to vote for in my area unfortunately.

Kym McHugh has been re-elected as Mayor of Alexandrina unopposed.

In the Strathalbyn ward there are only 3 candidates running for the two council spots.

Will still submit a vote though, working in local govt makes you do everything possible to avoid having fools elected to council.

Unfortunately most people don't really give a stuff about voting in council elections, so the percentage of people with NFI being elected ends up being quite high. :?

Our local Mayor in the AHC must be feeling the pinch. I've met him a few times and talked to him about several issues, and we mostly agree..
But a mutual acquaintance told me he got a bit upset when he saw me spend 10 minutes talking to his main opposition at the Stirling supermarket last Saturday.
I figured I may as well know where all the major figures stand on the issues that matter to me.

Bad judgement call from NicK Xenophon to back Ralph Clarke in Adelaide ... seems like the midas touch didn't work this time thankfully and it was really uncalled for.

Good to see a candidate who didn't seek the limelight get the gig in Stephen Yarwood.

It's a good time to raise issues with the Councils.
I've had two issues that have been ignored for a year but I raised them again when the election posters went up and both have been fixed in the last week.

I'm glad it's all over and the posters will be coming down ... I'm distantly related to a mayor candidate and am sick of people asking if he is my brother. :(

Love that result. Wong and Clarke are at each other all over the media and then - shit - forgot about that bloke!

Early days, but Yarwood seems like he's got his head screwed on and is doing it for the right reasons (ie doing it for Adelaide instead of his own personal profile).

Good to see Stephen get the job.
I lived with him and another mate for awhile when we were in our 20's and even then he was the most switched on bloke I knew.

Very surprising that, with some highly relevant local issues in many councils, the voter turnout was relatively low.

Great to see the "Save Mount Barker" group get a number of candidates on board, and that the Burnside Council mess now has some real signs of a fresh start with a number of councilors voted out, along with a new mayor being elected.

Interesting to see that a number of former state politicians failed in their bids to enter council, including David Winderlich and Mark Brindal.

Good to see the back of Harold Anderson in Charles Sturt.
