I'd rather be where we are, with a very solid foundation for sustainable future success, IMO, rather than whether we've won 6 or 8 or 10 or more games.

It goes without saying that we're aiming to be the best we can.

Like all clubs, we've lost key players for long periods - eg: Ferguson, Hartlett, etc. Our strongest side would be more than handy.

Nope. Needed to win more games than last (which we have done) to give us a chance to make finals. Cannot remember the last time all our grades played finals in the same year whicjh we should do this year. Each year we need to build to become a better club which cetainly has happened since Andy Collins has been here. Had a few thing against us this year, ie fire, Ronaldson leaving and injuries to key plays (Hartlett and Ferg) but we still keep improving. The past few years if we had lost players such as these, we would have been thrashed. Our biggest loss this year has been about 5 goals...thats a huge improvement.

Ho hum - in reality how far away from a premiership?

1 year 100/1
5 years 100/1
8 years 100/1
> 8 years 100/1

Last premierships - 1983, 1961, 1947

That is South esk.

And certainly no closer than they were in 2003 when they were luck to make the GF under Rehn.

The rumour was that it was suggested to the SAFC by Kevin Morris when they were advertising for a new Senior Coach after Pyman that the club should beat a path to Andy Collins door. Its perhaps interesting to ponder on what might have been had the club been able to secure his signature and the same that was done at West put into the SAFC, I would much rather see us off the bottom of the ladder and having a red hot go at the five as Westies are than our current situation of being bottom of the ladder, hence I do think getting Collins re-signed with West would be a logical next step of the plan the club has put in place, The lights project has put the crowds right up at Richmond, with plenty of support and coin going into the club Westies have as good if not better chance than anyone of a top three spot next season.

Ditto....they were a basket case a couple of years ago, but the big move was getting Collins and holding onto him.

Not the result that Westies were after today, just missing out on the finals is a bitter pill for any club to swallow.

I do wonder what the thoughts are of WAFC members on the Senior Coach Andy Collins? My recollection was that he came to the club with a three year plan to get the club into the finals, which is now the third year completed.

I think that its fairly obvious that West have improved considerably, despite not actually making the finals. The club won 5 spoons in a row and Collins has got them off the bottom of the ladder and pushing for a spot in the five.

They have improved their list dramatically, yet have also lost players in the same time and combined with their injury count, the list seems a little thin and missing some more key players to make the difference to the side, perhaps most glaringly obvious in the ruck.

I think that Collins deserves another year and the support of the members at the same time to continue what he has started. The major achilles heel could be the recruiting restrictions this time around. West may have to be more creative in which clubs and competitions that they recruit from. Yet if they can retain their list and put another 3 good recruits into the mix, I do think they are a good chance for the finals in 2011,

Thoughts?

I reckon they've gone backwards in 12 months, I remember that great win they had against Central last year.

We have actually won 3 more games than last year.

Think it is only the 4th time with the current finals set up that a team has missed the finals with 10 or more wins so we were probably a bit unlucky in the end.

Not confused at all, North went a lot more backwards than West did.
You must be confused as the thread is entitled "Andy Collins" and people are discussing West but if you want to compare them North were mediocre last year and completely crap this year. West were mediocre last year and mediocre this year. From 4th to bottom to 4th to bottom.
Personally I think West and North's style of game is a blight on our sport and I'd really enjoy it if the coaches that implemented it were sent packing.
Just my opinion though and I respect those who have differing opinions.

like wedgie i think west have almost gone backwards.

they won 3 extra game this year but they also played port and south 3 times each this season.

they didnt beat either of the two top side this season and to be honest against central they were woeful and never got close.

i also think there game plan is further away from winning a premiership than the attacking game plan they had last years.

personally i cant see how west can get ahead of any of the five sides above them in 2011
