New Zealand Contracted players

Postby brod » Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:09 pm

Kane Williamson, the 19-year old Northern Districts batsman, is one of four new faces on New Zealand's 20-member contracts list for the next year. The other three are offspinner Nathan McCullum, fast bowler Andy McKay and wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Watling. Allrounder Scott Styris has returned to New Zealand Cricket's elite group after missing out on a contract last year.

The players who drop out of the contract pool are retired fast bowler Iain O'Brien, batsmen Neil Broom and Daniel Flynn, and the fast bowling pair of Ian Butler and James Franklin.

Contracted players:Brent Arnel, Grant Elliott, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Tim McIntosh, Andy McKay, Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey, Daniel Vettori, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson

Looking at those names they will continue to fight for fifth spot in Test crickets rankings

b mccullum, oram, southee, taylor, vettori form a solid core to build around... those five are world class, and with guptill and styris performing, they're definetly a threat.

Coach Mark Greatbatch has stated that Ian Butler is the most unlucky player to have missed out

Really Scott Styris...you arent talking test cricket are you, he retired from that....plus hes just turned 35..and his stats in ODIs arent that flash
165 ODIs
32.57 ave (fair)
79.06 s/rate (not flash for a number five)
125 wickets (not close to one a game)
34.95 ave (high)
4.76 econ (fair)

Oram could be world class, if he was on the park (plus he doesnt play test cricket either)

At least he plays more than Jesse Ryder (who has been ruled out of another ODI tournament injured)

Need to stick with Guptill I think, only 23 and NZ dont have many young batsmen coming through with talent, he just needs to work on his temprament and not throw his wicket away

Styris has always been and bits and pieces cricketer and has been servicable at best for NZ.

Oram is a very good cricketer but gets injured way too much.

Jesse Ryder is one of their most talented players and could possibly be their best player IMO if he contentrated more on his cricket than getting drunk, partying and causing trouble.

I've liked he look of Guptill the moment I saw him. I rate him highly and always hope he bats well in every innings he has.

Opening batsman Peter Ingram has won a recall to New Zealand's one-day side and will replace Jesse Ryder for the tri-series in Sri Lanka next month. Ingram, 31, benefitted from the unavailability of Aaron Redmond to gain a spot in the touring party following Ryder's withdrawal with an elbow injury.
