Definitly needs to be higher in the order. 4 would be ideal for him in my opinion.

He probably should bat 4, but you can see why he doesn't. He plays far too many irresponsible shots for a Number 4. However, you really should bat 4 for England if you're any good.

isn't there something to be said for fixing the rest of the batting line up. If pieterson batting at 5 gets stuck stranded, the problem is that nobody from 6-11 is doing their job (ofcourse that job goes from being a legitimate batsman (6), to being capable and supporting the batter (keeper, high tail), to sticking around a while (9-10), to giving the crowd a laugh (11). Other than number 11, flintoff, jones/reid and the tail are not doing any of that.

Im not saying to pick bowlers on batting form (aka giles). I guess its an improvement having him in a little earlier, however it will not solve the problem, and will infact expose the side for collapses if there is noone in the middle order to steady.

Its the way he bats playing shots, sometimes irresponsible, sometimes inventive.
He does it successfully and is clearly Englands best batsman in the last 2 ashes series
He needs to bat like this in my opinion because it WORKS for him.
He has gotten out twice recently when batting with the tail.
Australia fears him
Must bat 4 in this batting line up
5 is a good spot for him in sides with a stronger tail.

I agree with what they say on 9. Must bat at 4 with the two players who are now playing 3 and 4. Bats in between and the other two could play their type of game around Petierson.

Yawn. Pieterson to bat at four...er..hasn't Ian Chappell done this one to death already? That guy is like a Bullie with a bone. Talk about flogging a dead horse..he's been doing it for weeks and now the inevitable baggy green article on is pet subject has appeared. I actually don't mind Chappell but once he gets one of his theories going he becomes a pain in the ar5e. I reckon Pieterson is good, Struass is better and Don Bradman is half the player Pieterson himself thinks he is.

REB, Chappell may be like a bulldog with a bone, but he's usually correct. I think the reason he harps on things is he probably gets frustrated by a lot of silly contemporary theories. I know I do. He is one of the great cricket minds, and I have been fortunate enough to spend time discussing cricket with Chappell and probably learnt more about the game than I had in the previous 10 years. Shane Warne claims Chappell as the greatest influence on his career. Enough said.

Number 4 would be the perfect spot for him IMO. It's ridiculous to see him stranded time after time. The English order goes from one extreme to the other from 3-4 to 5-6. A simple switch of Collingwood and Pieterson would have seen the English score more runs this summer.

It was a fantastic delivery by Clark but a very loose shot by KP so early in his innings.
