Free software! No, really

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ is a cool little site that gives away one legal piece of software each day. You have to get in on the day it's being offered or it voids. Lots of carp but every few days there is a pearler.

And they don't even seem to be trying to get your details to on sell as a mailing list/contact list. My, "What's in it for them?" instinct would prompt me to do a thorough spyware sweep.

I found IKEA free "Design you own Kitchen" software installed spyware, and so did a room designer package given away free by "Home & Garden" magazine.

I wouldn't trust anything from IKEA at the best of times, so software from them is well off of my list of things to get!!
