Hi, my ma runs a small business enterprise on her home pc which i think may have become infected with a virus. When ever we try to go to any url it looks like it tries to go there but then the browser is sent to a different site (sorry cant remember which at the moment) then goes to the this page can not be displayed message...the internet connection looks ok (she uses adsl).. she has avg free installed for virus protection and I have run a full system scan which found 1 trojan horse and cleaned it up.. i then rebooted the computer but the explorer problem is still there.. can anyone offer me any suggestion? or where do you go to get this type of problem sorted. thanks for any responses.. my mum doesnt have a lot of money and this is stressing her out bigtime... thanks guys and yes will be looking at alternative browsers shortly.

Download Mozilla Firefox (free) and use it as a browser instead of IE.

Ive had some pesky trojans that come up every time with IE but I don't have a problem with Firefox.

Spyware. It's basically a commercial virus, but not picked up by normal virus checkers. Get adaware or something like that and it will clean up the system. IE does get more of these than other browsers like firefox, opera or netscape but that's simply due to the market saturation of Microsoft and IE.

Installing Real Player did something similar to me. It even nobbled Firefox, which is why I usually use Opera these days. I would never browse with IE, and never use Outlook or Outlook Express.

Thunderbird complements Firefox for email, while the Opera browser has an integrated email system.
