Couple of Questions
Can you download albums etc using this programme?
Is it free, and is it straight forward to use?
What is the link for downloading the programme?
Any other ideas??. I have just got an Ipod and have downloaded all my CD's onto I tunes- If I download songs off Bit Torrent can I put them into I tunes to play on my IPod??

But 'bit torrent' is the actual file type protocol you will download. You need a client, or program to do this. Here is a link to a range of them : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_client I use Azereus for instance.

Once you have that installed (and sometimes you need to research how to tweak your modem / firewall settings to use it properly) you then need to find a site that hosts Bit Torrent files. You click on the file you want and your client will do the rest.

http://portforward.com/ I find this site handy to help set up my modem so I get faster downloads.

Isohunt and Torrent Spy are but a couple of 'naughty' sites where you can find lots of free torrent downloads. Try out Dimeadozen or The Trader's Den if you like downloading bootleg concerts and musical rarities.

What is the "health" all about on torrent spy?? Does it need to be full for decent quality?

If you're worried about quality, the best torrent sites are one's you register with where you have to keep a decent share ratio (ie let as much upload as what you download) to get great speeds.
Torrentleech.org, diwana.org, bitmetv.com and pussytorrents.org are my favs.
Some of those are now open by invite only and I have a couple of invites up my sleeve, if interested pm me your email address but if you do join any of them by my invite make sure your share ratio remains good otherwise it will impact on me.
For music I tend to just use the open one's mentioned above as they're relatively small to download.
Bittorrent is the only way to go when it comes to downloading, I regularly get speeds of up to 600k/s.

I use Azerus too but it can be resource intensive. There are some "lighter" programs around.

The health of a torrent relates to how many people are 'seeding' it. You will usually see a column for S (number or people seeding or sharing the file) and L (number of people 'leeching' or downloading the file). As Wedgie mentioned, it's good practice to keep a good seed/leech ratio. (ie after you have downloaded your file, leave the client running for at least a few hours so others can download from you). Who would have thought copyright theft could be so noble?

Limewire was good but now it's fast filling up with viruses.
E-Mule is better but also becoming another Limewire.

I only use it for music, for movies and other stuff I use mininova usually.

I used to use limewire but switched to frostwire....looks exactly like limewire but apparently safer, it's a free download for the full version and you don't get nagging reminders to upgrade to the pro version like limewire.

i run utorrent as my client. the site i use to find my torrents is mininova, has good descriptions of what your d.ling and infected torrents are removed very quickly.

I would suggest you look into Newsgroups. It is a bit of a learning curve but once you are set up it is a piece of pi*s. You do have to pay to get access to a decent server but I think the advantages make it well worth it.
Advantages as I see it-----
Speed. When I d/l it maxes out my Cable connection. A 700Mb Linux distro takes around 12 minutes to d/l.Full speed all the time.
Upload. Nil upload,nothing to share as I download from a server not other torrent users.
Anonymity. My I.P. address is not broadcast to all and sundry and my provider (supposedly) keeps no logs.My provider also encrypts the data using SSL (whatever that is)
edit; Less fakes and nasties to ruin your day

I use Astraweb as my provider and I buy a 110Gig block off them for $28 and Newzbin to locate the things I want to d/l.

I use the same as Kahuna it is excellent.

Internode have announced new deals, basically more download or cheaper rates, Im not sure if its related but tonight when I downloaded some bittorrents I got an average speed of well over 600k/s, before it used to be about 550k/s.
Whatever they've done, I like it!

Yeah doubled my 1500Kbps plan from 5Gb to 10Gb - pity I've never used more the 2.4Gb anyway.

Crikey, I struggle big time with a 40gb per month limit! Ive had to curtail my usual activities for the last 2 weeks, could have easily have knocked off 80gb this month!
