Modern Microsoft products protect you well enough for Microsoft - only M$ approved viri and malware gets through - "approved" = "has paid M$ a fee". You get loads when you use Internet Explorer and go to a Microsoft or MSN website.

I also heard you need a video card that supports Pixel Shader 2.0 and above to run it...
Is that true ?

I'm not sure because I had decided during the beta phase of Vista that I was sticking with XP Pro and Ubuntu Linux for the time being, but certainly magazine reviews suggest you need a pretty high end machine and shouldn't try to run it on the alleged minumum requirements.

That's what my wife said at dinner at a friend's house in Adelaide - he also works in IT. She claimed she had not understood a word of the conversation for 20 minutes - his wife then asserted the same! So, he and I changed the subject and talked about cars.

I reckon it's absolute BS. Maybe now there's nothing out there at the moment, but someone will find a way to beat the defenses of Microsoft. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Microsoft are bad at what they do, in fact they're probably the world's best by miles and miles. Just that if you give a few hundred thousand IT experts around the world a couple of years to work on finding a way to beat any program, they will.

Believe it or not, in the US as part of some programming courses, it is compulsory to create a virus as part of the curriculum.

Why do people start fires? Why do people graffiti? I think they get a sense of accomplishment and find it funny to think of all the hassle they're creating. Plus I think it's a challenge for them to beat Microsoft, and also just because they can. Now though with spyware they can make money out of it as well. Then is becomes a double edged sword: the "fun" of being a nuisance and the money on the side.
