Our tape based camcorder has had the Richard, so in the market.

Am keen to make everything in the house digital, so dont want to go tape-wise again.

However, the dvd burner cam corders are allegedly all carp, (according to commission based salesmen in shops) and no where near the quality of the tape ones.

Have started looking at the Hard disc cam corders, only seem to get "fair" ratings on the web.

Anyone have any clues/thoughts?

What do you use it for?

Hobby?
Enthusiast?
When you remember to take it with you and take it out the puch and use it?

Some really good ones out there and a lot of the ones a salesman would say is carp will serve the 3rd item in the list above very well.

Family stuff only.

Bought one a week ago, is "ok" so far, tends to flare a bit if light isnt great.

Our 3 year old tape one was definitely better quality.

Would definitely go TAPE.
DVD/HDD ones are prone to have issues, and are for lazy people.
TAPE is far better quality.
For better picture, splurge for a 3CCD model.

Then, get a DVD recorder, to put your videos on to DVD
(Or, use your PC with a Firewire card)
