NERD ALERT!
OK, its the age old question, even more controversial than Holden v Ford. What's your preference and why?
I personally have gone with a PS2 because of the games, Love Ratchet and Clank series as does the son, daughter loves Eyetoy and Singstar. Kids aren't old enough for Halo, etc and I'm not into shootemups like I used to be.
Only downside is I use it for a media centre as I can play DivX on it with the chip I got, would love to have a hard drive on it, can get one installed but would be nice if it came with one like the Xbox.
Interesting looking at the specs for PS3 v XBox 360, PS3 looks to have the better specs but the XBOX 360 will be coming out first giving it a better advantage.
As far as handheld games my daughter has just bought a Nintendo DS, I was spewing as I wanted her to save up for PSP but she wanted the Nintendogs.
Heaps of downloadable PSP games on the net but a 2gb Sony Duo Stick would cost the earth. You can get a Flash/SD Converter for the Nintendo DS but buggerall games on the net.

It's OK Coorong, you can tell us how the Atari and the Vic 20 are both better than today's consoles.

My stepson 4 years ago and a mate were playing a game on the computer. They said Graeme when you were our age did you have this game, I said no. The response was, but it is a really old game. Wont tell you how the conversation went after that, suffice to say they look at me with mystical eyes even today.
How do you spell mathusula?

My preference is XBOX but I dont' have anything against the PS2, or people who have one (as others do).
Wedgie - the HDD that comes with the XBOX is SFA really... 8 Gig and most of that is the OS etc. You could put one game on it, if that, and a movie.
I put a 120gig drive in my XBOX and it's modded, too. So I use XBOX Media Centre, and use it to play movies (divx, et al) music, view photos etc. I can FTP to my xbox from the network (it's plugged in all the time) and copy files to and from it. I can stream music and video from my PC to the Xbox as well. I also have a web browser (though quite crude) and various other apps which are neat.
Have to remember the PS2 came out almost 2 years I think, before the XBOX (might have been less) so the advantage of the PS2 is more games (been out longer) but the downside is it's older technology, and future games can't be as good (which I HAVE done by comparing the same game on both - common knowledge that a game - if programmed better for it - will look better on the XBOX).
The XBOX 360 and PS3 are that close in technology and release date it means **** all about what is better. Comes down to what you can afford, what one or two games you see that capture your attention, and maybe what other people you know have.
But having my XBOX modded and a large HD - I am happy to stay with it as my love for games has waned over the years - my attention spamn is so low that if I can't work a game out in 2 minutes, I can't be bothered.
The XBOX has meant I haven't had to build a media centre PC (which I was/am tempted to do) for my lounge room as the XBOX does everything.

All consoles are crap compared to a beefed up PC.
Though every now and then I like taking out my Atari 2600 with 90 games built in!

You know all those old Nintendo Game & Watch games are worth a bit on eBay? I have 'Egg' (boring game where a wolf has to catch eggs falling out of chickens' bums) in good nick in a box etc. It regularly goes for over $1000. Should I sell it now or keep it as an investment?

I had the one when you were a prisoner and had to escape the Prison Guards, I thought it was the ants pants.
I was however always jealous of my mate who had the Donkey Kong duel screen, I wonder how much that's worth these days?
Also remember the parachute one.

They go for about $50 unless you have the box. Even more for instructions. Goddamn nerds eh?

Wedgie, if you were single you'd be a man after my own heart. I, too, hold preference for PS2 and am a HUGE fan of Ratchet and Clank. Im in the middle of R&C 2 (for the 3rd time) at the moment.
Dont know if youve heard about ratchet Gladiator which is coming out on November 24? Different to 1,2 and 3 apparantly. Its more about the battles than the amusing storylines...

PS3 will have Blu-ray (high-definition) disc playback.
Not many will care, but I see it as a plus when stand-alone blu-ray players are likely to more expensive than the PS3.

PS2, playing NBA 04 for the Bulls 2nd in the entire league a couple more games, should be top, win the playoffs and then the tittle.
