Yeah, I bought a hard drive reader a few years back, just take the hard drive out of the computer, put it in this cradle and you can hook it up to another pc like a normal external HD. All my Hard drives shit themselves but still work fine as External Hard Drives and the data was all safe on them. Of course if your hard drive is screwed then you're looking at mega bucks to get stuff back from a professional company.

Computers are too complex. :D

They are not worth fixing my friend. :D

Replace it with new. :D

What will they think of next! :D

But if you are a tightarse, it could be a faulty boot HDD, boot sector scrambled or even the CMOS battery :D

Google it my friend ;)

You should have an external hard drive for computers that does an automatic hard-drive back-up every few days.

Data retreival is an over expensive spend.

After years of wasting $$$ I have my computer linked to 2 x External hard drives. :D

Plus I back up to 32G memory sticks to be safe. :D

Nothing is safe unless you have everything backed up 3x.... :D

I have an external USB Vantec hot swap box and a pair of Hitachi 1TB HDDs that I alternate.
Folders are synchronised every hour with the free Comodo Backup software.
It synchronises one way from your internal drive to your external so changes you make internally are matched on the external one each time.

Stuff I may regret having deleted from my working folders I also duplicate permanently in a seperate folder on the HDD, on a weekly basis.

Sorry mickey. It's not my fault you must pay for data retrieval. We all learn as we go my friend.

Back up or pay the penalty....

Back up and data retrieval is un-neccessary.... :D ;)

Have no internet security  , and you get a Supa Virus. It is not my fault.

Over 2 years old and there could be trouble.

Pay the penalty.... :D ;)

It's called insurance. Cost of living. ;)

Could be the start of your hard drive failing. Corupt files. Over writing? How old is your system?

And what version of windows are you running? Internet security?

If you can afford it, always run the latest version of windows.

Sorry Dog_ger that you didn't read my opening post correctly....

It wasn't I who failed to back up my data, but it was my semi retired parents who didn't back up....

They had full anti virus etc etc....

But does anyone really expect you to actually offer any usefulness to this forum anymore......
