Updates and shutting down

Oh wise ones...i have a problem.

About 4 weeks ago I had an automatic update of win 7 as I shut it down, so I did it didnt worry anymore about it as it did the 5 updates required and closed down.

Now the problem I have is that each time I go to shut down the PC it tells me that it needs to update then shut down my computer. Although it goes through this procedure, it then happens again and again each time I shut down.

The process takes about 9 minutes to do each time and it is now starting to pi$$ me off big time.

I have tried to restore to an earlier date, I have used all my Cleaners, Malware removers, scans atc to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas as to how I fix the problem.

Thanks.

I got around something like this with an update to a Vista reinstall on my laptop by identifying the specific update that was failing, then going to the Windows Update site and doing a manual download of the particular update file via the IE browser. Once I had the file on my desktop, I disconnected from the Internet so I could close my firewall and anti-virus package and run the update from the file with nothing interfering.

see if this makes it clearer

1.Check your update history. Go to Start - Control Panel - System and Security – Windows Update.
2.On the left panel, click View update history.
3.Find the repeated failed update. Note the name and number of the update.
4.Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ and search for the update you needed.
5.Download and install it manually.

Well after much mucking around and some very minor success, I thought I had the problem solved.

After just one night of having a smooth shut down, it returned again last night, grrrrr.

However I shall persevere until solved.

If you dont hear from me again, its because I have shot myself dead.

I have finally ridded myself of this problem.

I did a reload of windows 7 from the CD and a repair of files.

All solved.
