Local Area Connection error

A network cable is unplugged.

I keep getting this error, and losing connectivity.
My Internet works intermittently.
I am using Ethernet cables, and have switched them, so I don't believe the cables to be faulty.
I had this problem in the last 12 months, so I replaced the modem with a Netgear one.
I don't believe I should be up for a new modem every year?

Does anyone have a solution or advice, apart from Smac or AM Bays?

Faulty network card in your PC?

You could be up for a new modem every 12 months. I was cooking routers every 12.

Does leaving it running 24/7 have an impact ?

How will I test that?

My current one (Billion) was bought in early 2009 when I got ADSL 2+, and is still fine.
My old (Billion) ADSL-only one bought in 2004 still worked 2009, but is now retired.
They were both left on 24/7 except for power interruptions, or when occasionally turned off for some other purpose.
I'd look at the network card.

Same here, I had a Netcom that began service during 2006 and replaced this year when I upgraded to a WiFi model.
