having a few issues with wireless connectivity and have been looking at different options to improve.
would it be better to get another antenna or just get a new modem kit?

Depends on where your modem is and how far away / how much interference by wall etc.. there is.
Also cordless phones and other wireless devices can interfere with the signal

what Westsider said ... microwaves are a good way to ruin a wireless signal, thick brick or stone walls are as well, steel frames might simulate a faraday cage (joke)!
Johno, another connected device (ie. xbox) to the wireless router won't affect the wireless signal, but depending on what the xbox is doing, may affect throughput.
I believe your problem is related to sexual activity in the bedroom ... tone that down a bit and you should be right.
