Insurance!

Try Next Byte in Adelaide, they'll give you a quote on getting it repaired (and you can then use the quote on your insurance claim).

Home & Contents???

I was under the impression that items like that would not be covered due to their portability (I know my sister has trouble getting cover for some of her musical instruments)

Heater, I dropped my ipod touch, broke it and claimed it on home and contents. The thing is, if your premium is about the same as your ipod's (new) price, then it's pointless doing it.

Obviously you'll have to check your H&C terms and conditions (I think the term you're looking for is "accidental breakage") but for us it was fine.

claiming on you home and contents insurance is defiantly not worth it a brand new iPod nano 8GB is $144 and 16Gb $163 at JB and you would get them cheaper for cash. you might pay less for excess on your insurance but you would end up paying more next time your contract comes up for your next lot of insurance. You could also try mac centre at norwood.

If you can repair at a price which is significantly cheaper than buying new, then do it.

If the repair price is close to the same as the replace price, then buy a new one.

Simple economics really.

In this case, I'd say buying a replacement would probably be around the same price as fixing. Get some free quotes and see how it add's up.

Claiming on H&C Insurance would be silly as the excess would be more than buying new.

Unless of course a few other things "break" in the same incident?

as mentioned in other threads, I had a spill on my deadly treadly this morning and fell on my ipod which is now displaying a red x. No matter what I do, I can't reset it. The only suggestion I read on the net to work around it was to 'Bash' it on the ground/desk etc.

Anyone had this problem and if so how did they fix it?

It is worth checking with the insurers as the companies vary in policy on household cover.
I made a big claim in Melbourne in 2008 ($24K) and my costs were down in 2009 - partly because I'd moved to a less at risk area in SA.

It also appears it will only cost me about $30 per year to eliminate the excess on my contents.
I am considering since I bought the bike, as contents like that temporarily removed from the home are automatically covered up to $1000.00.

Thanks Psyber, I'd told people above in the thread about claiming it on insurance - which I will do if I can't fix it.

Just claimed 2 ipod's successfully on insurance. Got a new 32gb touch so I'm happy!

I've fixed a broken screen on my ipod before - pretty easy to do yourself. There are plenty of youtubes on the topic as well.
