How many people have received calls from Indians saying that there computer sent them warning messages and they are on the phone to help you.
I had the guy on the phone for half an hour today pretending to go along with it. Then I said I know your a scammer and I wasted your time you wanker, he was pretty happy.

He tried to get me to go to ammyy.com a website that has remote access software

What ever you do don't fall for it.

Cottoned on that it was a scammer right away, and wasted ten minutes of his time before telling him that I ran Linux on my home laptop

My missus rang me at work a few weeks ago to tell me the same story (she had told them to call back later), she was actually concerned something was wrong with our computer, she felt pretty stupid when both me and the 12 yo daughter told her she was being scammed, lucky she had enough smarts to ring me before she agreed to anything, they did call back later and she gave it to them, I think they hung up while she was still going off!!

I replied I don't even have a computer.

i play a long for a bit and pretend im doing what they say and when they say they have noticed problems in the last couple days i just say I havent used my pc in 6 months or i dont have a pc.
now i just hang up as soon as i hear they are indian

i have heard of this sort of thing happening, but never received a call myself.

however thanks for the heads up, ill make sure the wife doesnt fall for it (she shouldnt, i think she is smarter than that.....) and also make sure the mother inlaw doesnt know th password for our pc. i can just picture her getting the call while she is babysitting for us, and following the all the instructions blindly (i am not confident she is smart enough not to fall for it......)

They've called me 4 or 5 times.
I've varied my replies from everything from barking at them to putting on a Southern American accent and proclaiming I don't have a 'puta but I have a big toy box.
I love that 5 seconds of silence before they hang up and I usually have the kids in stitches.

Mum got caught by these guys, paid the fee for the "help" etc, even though the.wife and i told her it was dodgy and a scam, wouldn't believe us, the I think it was on aca or something she finally clicked that it was full of shite.

yes theyve called here a few times and depending on my mood i love dangling these **** along, and they dont have to be calling from microsoft

The thing is, Microsoft would never bother calling anyone in relation to security issues anyway.

Then I assume they get the directory list from the White Pages on disk for a small fee!
In theory only charities are allowed to use the "Do Not Call Register" as a "Do Call" list..

I dropped my home land line phone 10 years ago.

In todays world, (I presume this only happens on home phone land lines) what are the benifits of a home land line?

1. They work if you don't live in a good mobile reception area, and the local calls are not timed, so cheaper.
2. If you use a phone with a cord, not a wireless handset, you don't increase your risk of getting a brain tumour.
3. They enable you to avoid wireless modems in the house and avoid exposure to high frequency electro-magnetic fields there too.

That said, you can go naked in case 3., and Telstra have pushed up the fee to have the service to offset the benefit of un-timed local calls and push us all to more expensive mobile services by taking away that advantage. Yes, I know some business plans are cheaper but you have to commit to a high monthly subscription and use your mobile for everything to benefit.

I make most of my calls on my VOIP system and avoid using the mobile for anything but brief calls.
The Neurosurgeon, Vini Khurana, advocates only using mobiles, or cordless hand sets, well away from your brain - with a loudspeaker or a cord connected earphone.
[Bluetooth puts an antenna next to your brain too.]

The risk is real.

We had one last night and the MRS went to town!
I think, she needed a big win for the day after my GRUMP.
Then they tried to back up, got creamed by words I had not heard for years.
I mentioned once what was happening, but she was enjoying it and ignored me!
