Don't get MALcontent with my response, but it's hard to give you advice if you don't tell us what your primary functions will be.

Gaming? Video-editing? Formulation of betting algorithms? Surfin' the 'net?

Somehow I don't think Mal will be playing Call of Duty, Crysis etc.

This site is gold for finding what you require.

ASUS are good.

Do some research and once you know what you are after then check out MSY

Snap Mal

I'm looking too. Hopefully looking to pick one up before end of financial year.

I'll duck out to Plympton during the week to see if I can purchase one as the old desktop here has just about given up the ghost.

Cheers for the suggestions guys.

Have an ASUS here. IT guy at work reckons it is the Toyota Landcruiser of Laptops. Plenty of grunt and reliabilty. So far so good but I dont do games so WTF do I know about that option. I heard with Dell stuff only their attachments work - like printers, scanners etc. If you have the budget just go Apple. Rolls Royce, quick, virus free, impregnable firewall, unbelievable phone tech support.

MacBook Pros are very good laptops .. but are just about the most expensive money can buy.

For $1399, you will only get the bottom of the range 13".

I just bought myself a 17" MacBook Pro at work ... best laptop I've ever used, and I've been through a few over the years.

For what you want it for Mal you could save $900 on that.

Unless your "gaming" is really in-depth, you are blowing a lot of money Mal.

Hope you've used an Apple before.

Different software than Windows.

yeh but in a couple of years he would of needed a new laptop running windows. apple is more expensive but they last a lot longer then windows. And seeing that the macbook pros have just been released in the last few months i'd expect them to be under the $1000 by the end of the year.

Mal keep and eye out for os lion being released in july you won't want to miss it.
