Building a new Home Theatre.

Postby Moe » Tue May 24, 2011 2:28 pm

Moeman is about to embark on building a new family Palace.
I am in charge of one thing only- The Home Theatre.
Now, I am not that savvy when it comes to technical stuff, so ANY advice on what I should have done regarding pre wiring, cable outlets/points needed, surround sound etc. etc. would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, :)

If you want ease, simplicity and a one stop shop ( and you have loads of $$$$ ), go to the BOSE Store at Hilton.

Amazing sound, great choice of packages to suit most budgets and rooms. I think they'll even do a design / brief on what they would recommend for you.

And make sure the builder doesn't scrimp on plasterboard and insulation for this room either - that includes the ceiling over that room.

Should be using 13mm Plasterboard (CSR Soundcheck or Boral Soundstop) with a high dense insulation (Pink Sonobatts would be the best) in the walls and some high density insulation (Pink Sonobatts again) on the ceiling to keep the noise from leaking into other rooms as well.

If not done during construction phase, can be very difficult to mend later.

Bose is junk and overpriced.

How much are you willing to spend?

My BOSE system is not what I would consider junk, nor in fact many friends who think it is the best sound they have experienced.

Each to their own.

Their slogan could be: "better profit through marketing"

Yes, each to their own, but be aware Bose gear has tended not be highly regarded by professional reviewers or serious listeners.
Amar Bose (company founder) has always had a different design philosophy to most others in the industry and that's reflected in his products.

Will all depend on his budget I guess.

Still waiting to hear how much he wants to spend. Whether moe wants a serious ht ie projector and such, or just a a tv setup with surrounds. Size of room, budget, furniture etc. Is moe willing to buy electronic gear from reputable overseas websites?

If you enjoy your Bose system Booney, then thats great. Try and find a serious review of a system though.

6 sq meters? You could buy a bose system then. HAHA.

10-15k is a fair budget. Will post something tonight. Interested in a projector, or a big TV?

8 m2 is very small. With your budget, you will be able to get some high end gear. Is it a closed in room, or an open space?
