Windows Mail Error message.....

Postby A Mum » Tue May 03, 2011 4:36 pm

I have spent all afternoon trying to work out why I can't send emails ~x(

I can receive them - but only if I delete whatever's in my outbox first.

I use windows mail 2011.

I rang bigpond, but can they help - DON'T BE STUPID !!!

They have someone ringing me back 'higher up the technical help line' probably tomorrow afternoon.
I'm not patient enough to wait that long :(

I have even put the question out there on the windows live forum - but still waiting for a reply.

So here is my last ditched effort to see if any of you smart people can help me.

This is the error code I keep receiving:

A Mum my dad rang me with a very similar problem. He was online, and everything was connected. BUT he was using Google Chrome. And that stuffed the entire thing up.

Do you use Google Chrome?

There are many instances on the net of people using Windows Outlook Express and Google Chrome and having the same issues.

We uninstalled Chrome and installed Firefox and all ended up working well.

Thanks for your reply gadj O:)

I use internet explorer.

Thing that's most annoying is it's been working fine forever and now all of a sudden it's not :(

I am in the process of downloading/updating all windows updates to see if that helps.

Wouldn't worry me so much but I use email constantly for work.

I told my dad to ditch Windows Outlook. It's a pig.....

Try googling your error message and see if you can find any help there. (Assuming you've not already done this!)

Thanks gadj - yep tried that an nothing.

Thanks BS - did those things - nothing worked either.

Whilst writing this response Bigpond just rang me back...

Remembering I spent over 90 minutes on the phone to a 'technician' today-
The phone call was to inform me that it's a bigpond problem and they are working on it and have been since early today !!

I proceeded to ask/tell them - do they think it would be a good idea if they informed the 'front line' staff of this !!!

So mad !
I have fiddled with things, changed settings, probably can't even remember half the things I tried to do to fix it
(So hopefully haven't tampered with anything I shouldn't have)

But breathe in breathe out - at the same time - relieved that it's their problem and they can fix it...lol.

Thanks again for trying to help guys - very, very much appreciated O:)

...
If it was working before and it stops and you haven't changed anything it is usually a problem at the other end.
However, Bigpond doesn't usually admit they have problems, and they don't tell the front line staff so they don't admit it accidentally either.
Plausible deniability rules at Telstra...

Pretty silly really isn't it Psyber - what they'd rather pay a staff member 90 mins to try and fix something they can't

Thanks Kahuna - added my 2c worth...lol.
And yes did turn the modem off earlier in all my 'tryings' to fix.

O:)

Success :D

I turned the computer and modem off (even though I had before) - this time left it for about 30mins (don't know if that made a difference..lol).
Turned it all back on and now it's working.

Thank goodness.

Thanks again guys O:)

Used to say I'd never go to Telstra, however there plans are getting more competitive.

I'm on Telstra cable. Not a single issue. Average 3.5 MB/s (yes megabytes per second). 200GB per month, $79.95. Still expensive compared to TPG and others. But I don't mind paying more for a rock solid connection at awesome speeds.

Telstra peeve me off every now and again - like today - lol - but overall can't complain either.
Works out well for me to have home phone, mobile phone and internet plan all on one bill.
Paying less now than I did a few years ago.

Call me a mug (dedja - lol) but I'm happy to pay for convenience and 'all in one' than have bills here and bills there for all different things.

Also years ago I made the break to another company and it was my worst nightmare.
So yeah - quite happy most of the time with Telstra so Telstra it is.

I used to be on Telstra cable also. It's all good, until someone slices the line.

Bring on the NBN.
